Job Description Summary

As a member of this world class team the Lead Controls Engineer will lead and execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role you will be responsible for the design testing startup and commissioning of the protection and control aspects of fixed series capacitors(FSC) static VAR compensation(SVC) and synchronous condenser solutions within GEs Flexible AC Transmission Systems(FACTS) portfolio.

Role Summary/Purpose:

As a member of this world class team the Lead Controls Engineer will lead and execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role you will be responsible for performing studies and translating these into specifications designs software test plans testing and commissioning of the protection and control aspects of static VAR compensation (SVC). fixed series capacitors (FSC) and synchronous condenser solutions within GEs Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of complex power system studies for custom FACTS solutions.
  • Lead development of custom protection and control solutions including coding and modelbased control algorithms hardware specifications logic diagrams schematics and other required custom control hardware for custom FACTS solutions.
  • Lead development and of test plans and for realtime data system (RTDS) testing of GE FACTS protection and control systems
  • Be the lead contact liaison for technical issues for the customer and project manager
  • Coordinate with sourcing and project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications cost control and schedule objectives
  • Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers control engineers civil engineers electrical designers project managers engineering leaders and support organizations
  • Lead the development of the controls scope for proposals including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications estimating design manhours and materials supporting sourcing for vendor quotations directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements and the development of clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses
  • Lead the development and execute cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low cost vendor selection design improvements process improvements automation and new product introduction
  • Lead the performance of RCAs (root cause analysis) and corrective actions
  • Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience
  • OR Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25 as required which may include remote locations and international travel and be willing to comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in automation controller programming
  • Experience in microprocessor control hardware firmware architecture
  • Knowledge of and experience using IEEE IEC ANSI NEC and NESC standards and codes and ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided
  • Experience in installation fieldtesting and commissioning of HV equipment including required safe work habits
  • Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated creativity and ability to lead a team and be accountable for team results in order to deliver a high quality product on time and under budget
  • Ability to develop and implement standards and structured programs
  • Excellent personal computer skills including proficiency with Excel and Word MathLab AutoCAD and Microstation

The salary range for this position is 85600...00 USD Annual . The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience their education and the work location.
