Gundersen Health System is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our Radiation Oncology team as a casual oncall Radiation Therapist.

What Youll Do:

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for operating radiation therapy equipment to precisely simulate and treat patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.

Whats Available:

  • Casual OnCall (nonbenefit eligible position)

  • Will train/orientate as close to fulltime as possible for 812 weeks at both La Crosse and Tomah locations

  • 8hr day shifts Monday through Friday; no weekends call or holiday

  • Must work a minimum of 3 shifts per quarter able to pick up additional shifts as desired/available

  • Starting pay is $33.35/hr and up commensurate with your years of experience

What Youll Need:

  • Associate degree in Radiotherapy Technology from an accredited school or 120 credit hours toward a JCERT accredited bachelor program

  • American Registry of Radiologic TechnologistsRadiation Therapy (ARRTT) within three months of hire date

  • Current InfantAdult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients

  • Effective communication skills to interact with patients families and other healthcare professionals and staff

  • Previous Radiation Therapy experience preferred but not required

Job Description:

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for operating radiation therapy equipment to precisely simulate and treat patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Works with GundersenHealth Systempatients to accurately deliver the prescribed course of radiation therapy. Responsible for documentation of daily treatment and communicates with the Radiation Oncologist. Reports any variations or suggested changes in the policies to the Radiation Oncologist or the Medical Physicist.

2. Performs precise simulation procedures. Checks with the Radiation Oncologist for completeness of the simulation procedure. Completely records all patient and machine setup parameters. Explains procedures to the patient as required. Obtains patient consent signature. Performs periodic processor quality control procedures.

3. Responsible for demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal sensitivity with patients. Observes patient for unusual reaction or events. Discusses with patient physical and emotional feelings and relays these to the Radiation Oncologist.

4. Organizes daily treatment and simulation schedule in cooperation with other therapists and the departmental secretary for efficient department operation.

5. Performs daily warmup of all equipment according to department policies. Maintains supplies in the treatment room simulator room and the film stock.

6. Carefully observes and follows all departmental radiation mechanical and electrical safety policies. Pays particular attention to patient safety in regard to transferring patients on and off treatment couch and in placement of shielding devices above the patient. Keeps rooms and equipment clean and safe for operation. Reports any erratic machine operation or potential unsafe situations to the Medical Physicist.

7. Performs routine beamon time or monitor setting calculations according to prescription. Has calculation reviewed by Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Physicist according to departmental policies.

8. Performs assigned weekly chart checks according to departmental procedures.

9. Responsible for clinical instruction to students of the UWL/GundersenHealth SystemRTT Internship Program.

10. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.

11. Personally interacts engages with and cares for patients.

12. Ensures patient safety.

13. Performs other jobrelated responsibilities as requested.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Associate degree in Radiotherapy Technology from an accredited school or 120 credit hours toward a JCERT accredited bachelor program
