Segue Institute for Learning Public Charter School DistrictPosition: Dean of Student LifeLocation: Segue Institute for Learning Central Falls RI Position Type: FullTime Position; 11month (August 1st June 30th)Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and credentials This job description has been prepared to assist in evaluating various classes of responsibilities skills and working conditions. Segue scholars receive a rigorous academic experience that prepares them to excel in the high school and eventual college setting of their choice. The Segue Institute for Learning is a safe and nurturing environment that promotes diversity encourages individual growth and allows students to view themselves as citizens of change in their homes and OVERVIEW:The Dean of Student Life is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe healthy and supportive environment and culture that synthesizes the intellectual physical social emotional and spiritual development of students in a holistic way. The Dean of Student Life is a primary student advocate. The Dean works with administrators teachers support professionals families outside agencies and stakeholders to administer a comprehensive program of services including GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Imparts knowledge and supports school in further understanding the five tenets of the Wholechild Approach Mental Health Social Emotional Development Identity Development Academic Development Cognitive Development and Physical HealthColead the facilitation of Multitiered System of Supports (MTSS) Framework; data collection process/procedures; school and community based interventions and utilization of databased decision making to inform practices and evaluate programsCoordinates effective creation and implementation of behavior plans including leading targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions (i.e. Take 5 Check n Connect Lunch Bunches Small Group SEL sessions) in collaboration with Student Success Team (Teacher Behavior Specialist Teaching Fellows Social Worker Family and Administration)Maintain records and progress monitoring of student performance and interventions by observing student performance recording relevant data to assess progress where applicable and document program objectives interventions progress as a case manager for student attendance concerns by tracking weekly attendance data for assigned grade span adhering to steps on school attendance policy communicating with families and coordinating meetings with students and families. Support in the development and implementation of interventions for attendance concerns in partnership with parents/ with the school community in leading a Wholechild Approach in education that honors individual students and equitably prepares each student to reach their fullest potential by helping to create environments of belonging and connection for students and adults to engage and thrive. Work closely with the School Administrators Social Worker Behavior Specialists and other members of scholar support team to establish a positive structured achievementoriented and joyful school culturePlan develop and execute with teachers and support professionals developmentally appropriate school events for grade span that extends student learning and provides meaningful experiences that are integrated with students academic life and encouraging personal growth and development. Collaborate with SEL Team in planning coordinating and delivering schoolwide SEL curriculum and oversee the implementation by observing and providing constructive feedback.. Assist Professional Learning Time Lead Teacher with coordinating monthly meeting agenda for grade span teachers and support professionalsDevelops and implements a developmental and culturally appropriate transition program to support the transition of students into a new grade span (i.e. early childhood upper elementary and middle school). Collaborate with Deans across grade spans to build upon and refine current programming and educational opportunities for students and familiesObserve classrooms regularly and partner with teachers to provide targeted feedback that supports their development in engaging 100 of scholarsSupport scholar culture by working with students to mediate disputes and resolve conflicts (Restorative Justice)Administer and analyze school wide culture data (State of the Grades Climate CheckIn Surveys) and make adjustments as necessaryFacilitate regular data meetings with teachers to troubleshoot challenges and make decisions based on scholar achievementAct as a point person for school discipline and culture including discipline/culture issues and scholars in crisisReinforce our school policies universal practices and schoolwide expectations when meeting with students and familiesCoordinate and support with the implementation of schoolwide behavior management systems practices and proceduresCreate and maintain a school culture database including interventions and incentives to support the school culture management in training staff on the implementation of the Restorative and Positive Behavioral Intervention SystemModels and promotes respect for the diversity of student backgrounds experiences developmental and learning needsMaintain courteous respectful and professional relationships and communication with parents Helps establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect and value differences take responsibility for their actions and exercise their voice and with the Family Engagement Department to develop events activities and workshops to further engage parents/guardians in student learning and personal as a resource person for students and familiesServes as a liaison between the school families and students. Other duties as assigned by school administrationHome Visit Initiative (Incoming and Intentional)Take lead in coordinating home visits with Family Engagement Department and gradespan Deans of Student Life Facilitate home visits for all incoming students and families with teachers and support professionals. Coordinate intentional home visits with teachers behavior specialists FE Coordinator(s) and administrators regarding academic behavioral or attendance concerns. Disseminate home visit information with appropriate staff (social workers behavior specialists nurse teachers administrators)SKILLS:Bilingual candidates preferred but not requiredExcellent communication skillsWillingness to contribute to the continuous growth and development of the organizationCrisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferredFamiliarity with Restorative Practices preferred Knowledgeable of Multitiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) Framework
