Job Duties
Are you someone driven by innovation with a passion for design We are looking for professionals with Materials Engineering interest who can support the Virginia Department of Transportation in constructing new roadway designs to keep Virginia safe and moving!
Virginia Department of Transportation Richmond District is seeking an individual to provide technical support and assistance to our Materials Section. This position performs asphalt materials sampling and testing in conformance with the required methods on projects at the asphalt plants and in the laboratory. Review and approve asphalt mix designs coordinate and monitor material sampling and testing between producers and field technicians. Perform inspections at plants and on projects. Compile and maintain test results and report findings. Maintain and operate testing equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Skill in the use of materials sampling and testing equipment.
Valid drivers license
Experience reflecting knowledge of highway construction maintenance methods materials and usage.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications
Ability to work in the area of lowlevel ionizing radiation
Ability to work with and train others.
Experience reflecting knowledge of materials sampling and testing procedures.
Experience reflecting knowledge of asphalt mix design asphalt materials sampling and plant inspections.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Materials certifications vary by position. Ability to obtain combination of certifications that apply to specific materials position within 12 months of employment.
Additional Considerations
Current possession of required materials certifications
A combination of training experience or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired.
Ability to interpret plans drawings manuals test methods and specifications.
Knowledge of materials quality control and quality assurance practices.
Prior experience in materials testing construction maintenance or a related field
Experience working in teams with VDOT Construction Contract or Producer personnel.
