Job Description

Job Title: Associate Principal
Reports to: Principal
Dept./School: Assigned campus
Exemption Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campuslevel operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:
Masters degree from accredited university
Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
Advanced Education Leadership (AEL) certification Instructional Leadership Training(ILT) or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD)
Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System appraiser (TTESS) appraiser
Valid Texas teaching certificate


Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Capable instructional leader
Thorough understanding of school operations
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to coordinate campus support operations


Experience:
Three years experience as a classroom teacher
Experience as an assistant principal


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Instructional Management
1. Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
2. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs helpingteachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
3. Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
4. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their activeinvolvement in decisionmaking process.


School/Organizational Climate
5. Promote a positive caring climate for learning.
6. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
7. Communicate effectively with students and staff.


School/Organizational Improvement
8. Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensureattainment of the schools mission.
9. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff parents andcommunity members.
10. Help principal develop maintain and use information systems to maintain and records totrack progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
11. Participates in campus planning and sitebased decisionmaking processes as they pertainto student services matters.
12. Coordinates and collaborates with department heads and campus administrators to ensurethat the development of the master schedule staffing requirements and facilities utilizationare reflective of campus curriculum priorities.


Personnel Management
13. Observe employee performance record observations and conduct evaluation as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
14. Assist principal in interviewing selecting and orienting new staff.
15. Responds to and resolves parent complaints for student services related problems regardingattendance schedules and permanent records.


Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
16. Supervise operations in principals absence.
17. Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedulesteacher assignments and extracurricular activity schedules.
18. Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerkon followup investigations.
19. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based ondocumented program needs.
20. Oversees and works cooperatively with the counseling department to facilitate student andteacher schedule changes and to ensure student records are maintained accurately and in atimely fashion.
21. Requisition supplies textbooks and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; andverify receipts for materials.
22. Coordinate transportation custodial cafeteria and other support services.
23. Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and board policy.


Student Management
24. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.
25. Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive studentbehavior.
26. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriateand equitable.
27. Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents students and teachers.
28. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.


School/Community Relations
29. Articulate the schools mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
30. Demonstrate awareness of schoolcommunity needs and initiate activities to meet thoseneeds.
31. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.


School Safety and Security
32. Assist with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
33. Understand and apply the campus and District MEOP as appropriate.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal includingassistant principals and counselors. Supervise teachers custodians paraprofessionalsclerical personnel and others as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities asassigned by the principal which may include interviewing; planning assigning anddirecting work; and appraising performance.
