Job Description

Job Title: Teacher PYP K5 Wage/ Status: Exempt

Department: Primary Years Programme HR Revised: January 2025

Reports to: Primary Years Programme Principal

Westlake Academy is a K12 openenrollment public charter school operated by the Town of Westlake Texas. The Academy is committed to academic excellence and globalmindedness through its International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. The school fosters a culture of inquiry collaboration and innovation to develop wellrounded students prepared for leadership roles in a dynamic and interconnected world.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

Westlake Academy is seeking qualified and enthusiastic candidates to join its pool of K5 PYP teachers. Candidates in this pool will be considered for future teaching opportunities as positions for theschool year. Faculty members are expected to uphold the principles of the IB curriculum while fostering a rigorous engaging and studentcentered learning environment.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Priority will be given to applicants who possess:

  • Masters degree in Education or related field
  • Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs
  • 13 years of experience in an IB World School
  • IBEN Member

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
  • State teaching certification required; IB training is highly desirable
  • ESL Certification
  • Strong understanding of the IB philosophy and its emphasis on inquiry internationalmindedness and academic rigor
  • Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students in meaningful and innovative learning experience

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Continually strives to improve classroom methods teaching techniques increase knowledge of content subject matter and interpersonal relationships.
  • Effectively displays the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Possess exceptional pedagogical skills and understanding.
  • Display strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Accept and implement constructive feedback in a professional manner.
  • Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Able to maintain confidential information pertaining to students employees volunteers and the general operations of Westlake Academy.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates regularly with the IB coordinators and teachers to design implement and reflect on IB unit
  • Collaborates with the IB coordinators to produce supplementary teaching and learning materials that support IB conceptual understandings.
  • Attends faculty meetings and other appropriate staff meetings.
  • Communicates regularly and appropriately with parents/guardians regarding their childs classroom performance; develops methods in support of classroom goals and teacher expectations in the home environment.
  • Maintains professional relationship and communication with parents students and campus personnel; ensures that all interactions are supportive courteous and respectful.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Stay informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with campus goals assigned areas of responsibility and the varied needs of students.
  • Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other Duties

  • Assists in the proctoring of public and internal examinations.
  • Assists with educational visits relevant to their classes or schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the PYP Principal Principal or Head of School.

EVALUATION

The performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the PYP Principal or Assistant Principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position requires the ability to maintain effective audiovisual discrimination and perception for making observations operating assigned equipment and communicating with others.
  • The employee must maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: walking and standing for extended periods of time running walking crouching or crawling during an emergency lifting carrying and pushing/pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. manual labor as needed and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
