Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt

START DATE: July 1 2025

SCHEDULE: FullTime

SALARY: $75123 $84995 Commensurate with experience and education

JOB SUMMARY:

The Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor provides handson leadership planning and oversight for the districts facilities maintenance custodial and grounds operations supervising a team of 30 staff members across 8 buildings. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations this role ensures that all district properties are safe wellmaintained and efficiently managed. The Supervisor is responsible not only for managing personnel and coordinating facility improvements but also for performing handson work to meet the districts maintenance and custodial needs as necessary. This position ensures that all operations align with legal and regulatory standards to maintain a secure and productive environment across all district facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions are the core responsibilities required to perform this role. These duties ensure the effective operation maintenance and safety of district facilities supporting the districts mission and goals. The Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for other duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the district.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Maintenance and Custodial Departments.
  • Develop implement and enforce policies and procedures to ensure safety efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Operations to align departmental goals with district initiatives.
  • Inspect buildings and installations regularly to determine that high standards of workmanship cleanliness safety and security are maintained.
  • Keeps informed of the latest trends developments and products in the areas of maintenance repair and upkeep and encourages innovation and experimentation as appropriate.

Facilities and Maintenance Oversight

  • Supervise custodial and maintenance operations across all district facilities.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and preventative maintenance programs for buildings and grounds.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements including health and environmental regulations.
  • Establishes appropriate maintenance groundskeeping security and custodial requirements for each school building and installation.
  • Examines all school facilities regularly to determine needed maintenance.
  • Plans for preventive and regular maintenance of buildings and grounds of the school district including prioritizing major maintenance projects and recommending action to the Director of Finance and Operations and Superintendent.
  • Maintains a record of maintenance work performed the materials used and cost using the District FMX online management system.

Personnel Management

  • Train supervise and evaluate the performance of department personnel including custodial staff maintenance teams and administrative support.
  • Partner with Human Resources to handle recruitment hiring performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
  • Promote a positive professional work environment that encourages continuous development and growth.

Project and Construction Management

  • Plan and oversee facility improvement projects and construction initiatives ensuring projects meet timelines and budgets.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction projects and assign responsibilities to staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between contractors vendors and district administrators for building projects.

Budget and Inventory Management

  • Develop and manage the department budget ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient use of resources.
  • Monitor expenditures and oversee procurement of supplies and equipment to support custodial and maintenance operations.

Community Engagement and Coordination

  • Coordinate facility use and rentals with each building.
  • Communicate with district and community stakeholders to address concerns and provide operational updates.
  • Maintain a positive professional relationship with school committees advisory groups and government agencies.

Compliance and Safety

  • Serve as a member of the District Safety Team to ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations.
  • Consult with local and state officials to ensure alignment with building codes and regulations.
  • Ensure staff receive appropriate safety training and are equipped to handle emergency situations.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

  • Indepth knowledge of mechanical electrical HVAC plumbing carpentry irrigation and other building systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of custodial maintenance and grounds management best practices.
  • Familiarity with federal state and local regulations governing safety environmental health and facilities management.
  • Experience with project management including construction and renovation planning.
  • Budgeting principles and inventory management practices.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with contractors vendors district personnel and community members.
  • Proficiency with computers and software tools for budgeting reporting and communication.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents contracts and legal regulations.
  • Analytical skills for problemsolving and decisionmaking.

Abilities:

  • Ability to manage personnel motivate teams and provide constructive feedback.
  • Capable of planning and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and manage emergencies effectively.
  • Comfortable working at heights operating equipment and performing physical tasks.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and foster positive working relationships across the district.
  • Ability to travel within the district as needed and maintain a valid drivers license.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree or equivalent experience in industrial or facilities management or civil mechanical or architectural engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in a supervisory position preferred
  • A valid drivers license is required
  • Additional certifications in safety or maintenance operations are a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regularly required to sit stand walk talk hear operate a computer and other equipment reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision and hearing abilities as required by DOT for this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus especially due to concentration when driving the bus when reading instructions and the ability to see details at close range.
