Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno Extension is seeking an innovative and detailoriented Grants & Projects Analyst Trainee to support the SNAPEd Program. ***This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This role is responsible for full lifecycle grants managementincluding preaward budget development postaward fiscal oversight compliance monitoring and strategic financial planningfor a complex portfolio spanning three CABNR units: Extension Nutrition Department and the Experiment Station.

Key Responsibilities:

PreAward Administration:

  • Identify and communicate funding opportunities to faculty and leadership.

  • Review solicitations to determine eligibility and proposal requirements.

  • Develop and review proposal budgets ensuring costs are allowable allocable and reasonable.

  • Provide feedback and guidance to faculty regarding proposal documents and submission requirements.

  • Assist with routing and uploading proposal materials into university and sponsor submission systems.

PostAward Financial Oversight:

  • Lead financial operations including monitoring budgets by category project and worktag to identify needs for revisions or modifications.

  • Review and approve expenditures ensuring they meet federal and institutional standards for allowability allocability and reasonableness.

  • Evaluate and approve or deny subaward invoices based on compliance and documentation.

  • Prepare detailed monthly backup documentation for reimbursements and submit to Sponsored Projects.

  • Reconcile grant accounts and ensure timely and accurate reporting of expenditures and balances.

Compliance & Strategic Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with federal state sponsor and university policies and procedures.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for faculty and staff on grant regulations and university requirements.

  • Provide technical assistance to subgrantees and coordinate training on grant administration and fiscal best practices.

  • Analyze financial data to develop reports and provide strategic recommendations to the SNAPEd Principal Investigator (PI) and/or sponsoring agencies.

  • Make recommendations regarding fiscal policy improvements accounting practices and reconciliation processes.

Training & Communication:

  • Conduct group and individualized trainings for faculty on the grant lifecyclefrom proposal to closeout.

  • Develop educational materials and identify innovative methods for delivering training and updates.

  • Communicate progress updates and fiscal insights to the PI and other key stakeholders regularly.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration accounting finance or related field; OR

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level technical or paraprofessional grants experience which includes duties such as assisting with writing grant applications; determining grant/subgrant program eligibility; providing technical assistance to grant/subgrant clients; and/or assisting with fiscal aspects of grants/subgrants; OR

  • Two years of paraprofessional experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III or Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which included assisting in performing grant duties as described above; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 31 (Entry Step 01 $26.07hr)

In classified service salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment the candidates qualifications internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
