At Cooper / Ports America the Marine Superintendent youll help lead our teams in maintaining high standards of operational efficiency while prioritizing the safety of all team members. As a steward of operational excellence a Marine Superintendent will need to be flexible and adapt to changing operational needs and schedules. The Marine Superintendent is a part of the operations management team and is responsible for the direction and supervision of longshore workers. While maintaining a positive working relationship with the labor the Marine Superintendent is to set the standard and be held accountable for a safe and efficient operation. With our dedicated teams working on all three coasts across over 33 ports and 70 locations youll feel empowered to grow professionally while serving the communities in which we operate.

Essential Duties:

  • Work closely with terminal staff to prepare department plans while determining the appropriate workforce to hire for an efficient and costeffective completion of plan.
  • Supervise union represented personnel in proper operating procedures and as needed will counsel discipline or make termination recommendations to ensure an efficient operation while working within the definitions of the labor agreement.
  • Enforce productivity levels by supervising longshore workers in making multiple rounds within the terminal and a followup assessment prior to shift end.
  • Complete various reports and forms such as shift production payroll and safety summaries; produce reports to respective parties within required deadlines.
  • Support monitor and trouble when necessary terminal operating systems ensuring data is accurate. Additional technologyrelated duties may apply.
  • Plan hold and document daily safety meetings; partnering with Area Health Safety & Environment to understand and train longshore workers to adhere to safety procedures while implementing plans to address safety hazards.
  • Report problems and issues to the appropriate manager of great impact and complexity to the operation.
  • Responsible for learning navigating and adhering to all union contracts.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by business need.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in maritime logistics terminal operations or related supply chain industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Marine Administration Transportation Operations Management Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with computerized operating systems
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention protocols and regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
  • 2 years leadership experience
  • Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations

Physical Working Conditions:

  • Climb up and down a ladder on a vessel multiple times within a shift
  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment
  • Drive 50
  • Lift push and pull up to 30lbs
  • Use a computer/keyboard
