THE OPPORTUNITY
EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre a leading treatment facility specializing in eating disorders is seeking a parttime Medical Director to oversee its medical operations. This key leadership role requires a commitment of approximately 56 hours per week with additional oncall responsibilities shared on a rotating basis. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive medical assessments leading the interdisciplinary medical team ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering highquality patient care for adolescents and young adults struggling with eating disorders.
As the Medical Director you will collaborate closely with the Executive Director and clinical teams to optimize patient outcomes enhance treatment protocols and maintain a strong culture of care and professionalism. RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor the medical team including physicians and nurse practitioners to ensure high standards of care.
- Maintain open communication and collaboration with healthcare professionals including dietitians nurses and therapists.
- Oversee and coordinate medical coverage ensuring continuity of care.
- Participate in policy reviews accreditation processes and quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Care & Medical Oversight
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients with eating disorders and cooccurring mental health concerns.
- Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Prescribe and evaluate medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards.
- Requisition and interpret diagnostic services as needed.
- Oversee patient admissions working with medical teams at Recovery Alberta and the Childrens Hospital.
- Provide ongoing health education to patients and families regarding common health concerns associated with eating disorders.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Serve as the facilitys Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) custodian ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
- Ensure adherence to medical regulations professional standards and ethical guidelines.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks to patient safety and medical operations.
Client & Family Engagement
- Communicate and collaborate with patients and families regarding health findings treatment plans and prognosis.
- Address patient concerns and provide guidance on transition planning including posttreatment support.
- Promote a patientcentered approach ensuring respect and dignity for all individuals receiving care.
Operational Involvement
- Participate in weekly multidisciplinary case conferences (Wednesdays 11:00 AM 12:30 PM in person or virtually).
- Attend management organizational or patient/referent meetings as needed.
- Support Sandstones electronic medical records (EMR) system (training provided).
OnCall Responsibilities
- Participate in the shared oncall rotation with the Nurse Practitioner (every other week).
- While on call be available for consultations but not required to be onsite unless necessary.
- Coordinate with EMS for hospital transfers in emergency situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed physician in Alberta with a valid medical license and registration with the Alberta Medical Association.
- Membership in good standing with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
- Experience in general practice adolescent medicine psychiatry or a related field preferred.
- Interest in working with youth (ages 1224 and a collaborative teamoriented approach.
- Prior experience with eating disorders is not required; training opportunities available through the Childrens Hospital.
- Strong leadership communication and decisionmaking skills.
