Details
The John and Marcia Price College of Engineering at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenuretrack faculty position at the rank of associate professor or professor. This position is to direct and expand geothermal energy research at the Energy & Geoscience Institute EGI . The successful candidate could be appointed in Chemical Civil or Mechanical Engineering according to background and experience. Successful candidates are expected to manage substantial existing research ventures with the U.S. Department of Energy and develop dynamic externallyfunded research programs that expand national and international recognition direct graduate student research and to implement relevant course work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a related field. We seek the best available candidate with research strengths focusing in geothermal energyrelated research with the ability to manage research agendas for high medium and low enthalpy applications. This position would include managing the ongoing DOE Utah FORGE project and staff members at EGI that support that venture. Continued emphasis would be placed on expanding EGIs reputation as a geothermal center of excellence and in expanding its academic mission. The Energy & Geoscience Institute EGI is a multidisciplinary energy institute at the University of Utah. For decades EGI has performed groundbreaking geoscience research around the world worked on innovative geothermal technologies and developed a portfolio of carbon dioxide sequestration projects. Currently EGI manages FORGE (Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy) an EGS (Engineered Geothermal Systems) project funded by the US Department of Energy. The FORGE project has been funded at over $200 M during the last 5 years and additional funding is expected. In addition EGI has added decarbonization and grid management expertise to provide integrated and optimized solutions across the entire energy value chain for the low carbon future.
