Description

The Department of Psychology at Suffolk University invites applications for a fulltime nontenure track instructor of Psychology beginning September 1 2025. This is a oneyear position that is potentially renewable. Faculty responsibilities for this position include teaching a range of courses in the Psychology undergraduate major. The regular teaching workload is 8 courses per year; the workload for this position is 7 courses per year which includes a one coursereduction for substantial student academic advising responsibilities. Service to the department College of Arts & Sciences and university beyond the classroom is also expected through committee membership contributing to department meetings programs and events and mentoring students.

The successful candidate will have a Masters or a Ph.D. in Psychology with demonstrated college/university teaching excellence. The Psychology Department offers an undergraduate degree in Psychology masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. The Department has a strong commitment to student development by providing high quality instruction to a diverse student body. Faculty in the Psychology Department have a wide range of expertise and perspectives in psychology. Our department does not focus on a single approach though we have a shared commitment to advancing social justice. Our faculty are engaged in the community as clinicians researchers advocates and consultants. Department faculty take advantage of our location in the heart of Boston a worldclass center of the healthcare sector to participate in broad research clinical and other professional opportunities as teacherscholars and to integrate lively experiential learning opportunities into the classroom.

The successful candidate will contribute to a rich tradition of communityengaged teaching and experiential education that prepares our diverse substantially firstgeneration college students40 of whom are Pell eligiblefor careers and civic engagement. The successful candidate will have a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and curricular diversity mentoring and advising studentsespecially firstgeneration college students. We seek candidates excited about centering best practices pedagogy focused on active applied and experiential learning in their teaching; a commitment to ongoing and continuous improvement in teaching is expected. Familiarity with and experience using pedagogical methods that enable students across racial ethnic socioeconomic and ability groups to reach their maximum potential is a valuable qualification. The workload for this position is 80 teaching and 20 service.
