Job Summary

The Director of Academic Support is a fulltime 12month position reporting to the Executive Director of Library Services that serves all campuses sites and centers for Southwest Tennessee Community College. The Director of Academic Support will oversee online and onsite tutoring promote tutoring services provide training and supervision of tutoring staff and manage the budget and daily operations of the Academic Support Centers.

The Director will work collaboratively with Academic Support Center tutors librarians faculty department chairs and deans to provide services aimed at increasing students retention and completion rates.

Job Duties

  • Provide effective and responsive leadership in tutoring services
  • Oversee the budget for the Academic Support Center (ASC)
  • Motivate manage hire train and evaluate ASC staff
  • Promote tutoring services and develop innovative programming for students and workshops for firstyear experience
  • Utilize the Colleges early alert system to ensure the most atrisk students are receiving appropriate instructional support interventions
  • Stay abreast of curriculum changes and liaise with faculty
  • Ensure compliance with auditing requirements
  • Coordinate College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification efforts
  • Track analyze and report tutoring usage and monthly and annual data
  • Serve on college committees as appointed and/or needed
  • Facilitate meetings and resolve conflicts
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed be oncall and have the ability to travel between Southwests two main campuses offcampus instructional sites and within the state for attendance at professional meetings
  • Take on other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a masters degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Minimum three 3 years experience in a learning center facilitating inperson tutoring online tutoring and academic coaching
  • Minimum of one year of supervising a staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tutoring experience in highdemand subjects such as English Math Speech and Academic Success
  • Experience teaching credit courses in a higher education setting

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in teaching and tutoring
  • Knowledge of current trends in higher education
  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote academic excellence and holistic student success
  • Knowledge of best practices in recruitment hiring training evaluation and supervision
  • Proficiency with MS Suite and digital tutoring management systems such as Tutortrac Navigate or Slate that provide online tools for appointment scheduling logging visits activity reports and data collection
  • Experience in strategic planning and proposal writing
  • Ability to initiate and implement organizational change work with a heterogeneous student population and maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external partners faculty and college departments
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing listen effectively resolve conflicts and speak in public
