Position Description

The UMs National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering (NCCHE) invites applications for Research Assistant/Associate Professor positions in Computational Hydraulics. The successful candidates will lead research initiatives in diverse areas including surface and subsurface water hydrodynamics water quality chemical and oil spills sediment transport channel evolution dam and levee break flooding reservoir sedimentation and environmental risk analysis for lakes rivers and coastal waters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative research and lead efforts to publish findings in reputable journals and conferences.

  • Develop and submit external research grant proposals within the specified research areas.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on interdisciplinary waterrelated research projects.

  • Advise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral research associates.

  • Serve on editorial boards for scientific journals and committees for academic conferences.

  • Utilize numerical modeling techniques for physical environmental applications including watershed and hydrodynamic models.

* The continuation of this appointment is dependent on satisfactory performance and the sustained availability of research funding.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A Ph.D. in Computational Hydroscience and Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Experience Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven experience in leading research grant proposals relevant to Computational Hydraulics.

  • A track record of publishing in academic journals within the specified research areas.

  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g. FORTRAN C Python R).

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Familiarity with CCHE numerical models is preferred.
