The Opportunity:
The Landscape and Natural Resources department at Facilities and Business Operations is seeking an Irrigation Technician II to maintain a fully functioning irrigation system across the universitys main branches and campuses. This role also involves supervising training and coordinating assigned employees to ensure timely and effective irrigation maintenance.
Responsibilities:
Supervise train and coordinate irrigation staff to ensure work is completed on schedule and meets department standards.
Plan and manage workforce productivity quality and resources including labor materials and documentation.
Provide handson training and coaching to staff on job assignments standards and customer service.
Perform and oversee irrigation maintenance tasks such as inspections head repairs lateral and mainline repairs wire burial wire troubleshooting and system installations.
Manage the IQ4 irrigation system including creating schedules alternative programs and emergency shutdown procedures.
Review and manage work orders maintain accurate data in CMMS and coordinate with staff vendors and inspectors as needed.
Maintain records of labor materials and job details while tracking inventory of tools and irrigation supplies.
Oversee new irrigation installations system repairs and adjustments in collaboration with contractors and other departments.
Review Sunshine 811 locate tickets ensuring compliance and marking reclaimed water irrigation lines as required.
Conduct inspections as part of preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with state regulations local ordinances and codes.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting heavy equipment digging and working in varying outdoor conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of experience in irrigation system installation maintenance and repair including troubleshooting electrical components.
2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role with demonstrated ability to train and manage staff effectively.
Proficiency in managing computerized irrigation systems such as IQ4 or similar irrigation software platforms.
Strong understanding of irrigation principles including hydraulics water conservation practices and sustainable landscape management.
Ability to clearly convey instructions provide coaching and collaborate effectively with team members vendors and stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills in English in order to: work effectively with customers and supervise team members; operate and demonstrate the functions of the electronic equipment and tools to staff members; comprehend and describe standard safety procedures to staff members; and utilize communication devices.
Experience using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for work order tracking and documentation.
Familiarity with state regulations local ordinances and codes related to irrigation system design and maintenance.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.29 to $27.14. The final salary will be determined based on the candidates qualifications experience and internal equity considerations.
Position requires a valid Class E drivers license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
