Position Description
Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Chief Inspector the Senior Inspector manages the daily operational flow of the team as well as inspects construction and pursues compliance regarding plans and specifications set by the rules and regulations of Harris County as administered by the Permit Group.
Job Duties:
Effectively manages and coordinates all private development inspections complaints and violations within Harris County. Mentor the inspection team. Develop and maintain biannual training to keep the inspection team abreast of new construction standards and best practices. Perform inspections address complaints and issue violations when needed. Assist the Chief Inspector with interviews. Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of the Teams inspections violations and complaints. Assume the position of Chief Inspector when needed. Conduct disciplinary action when essential. Assists in disaster recovery efforts when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
Experience:A minimum 6 years of experience/background in engineering related design construction real property or closely related field
Knowledge Skill & Abilities (KSAs):
- The successful candidate must have strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills to maintain records files and communicate effectively with the public and employees.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs and the ability to learn department supported application programs shortly after hire.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings topographical maps and knowledge of regulatory agencies and their impact on Architecture/Engineering Planning.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment prepare written business correspondences multitask and be detail oriented.
- A valid drivers license (Texas upon Hire) and a good driving record. (Must provide and maintain proof of automobile liability insurance upon employment)

Preferences
Education:Bachelors or associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering Architecture or other closely related field.
Experience:
- Experience working in a position that requires understanding and implementation of rules or regulations.
- Construction experience.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Previous government employment especially in areas that involve administration of regulations.
- KSA Intermediate or higherlevel knowledge of construction techniques or engineering design.

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
FullTime Regular 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings late evenings weekends and holidays at times depending upon the project or workload.Salary:
Commensurate with experience based on 26 pay periods.Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:
- Most assignments will be performed in an office meeting or operations command center environment but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
- This position requires bending stooping and lifting to 25 lbs. frequent walking standing sitting reaching and ascending/descending stairs.
