About the Faculty ofHealth Community and Education

The Faculty of Health Community and Education (HCE) is constantly looking forward to an inspired future where our efforts contribute to healthy communities and ultimately improve the quality of life of those with whom we interact. Our unique collection of programs tailored to health community and education professions creates a compelling collective. Our partnerships with the community and within the postsecondary sector open up new and exciting avenues that increase access and opportunity while augmenting the overall student Faculty of Health Community and Education is comprised of four departments: School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONM) Health and Physical Education Child Studies and Social Work and Education which offer a variety of degree diploma and certificate programs.

The Bachelor of Child Studies is made up of two programs; Early Learning and Child Care and Child and Youth Care Counsellor. Both programs emphasize collaboration and community leadership equipping students with a combination of theory and practical skills to make a difference in the lives of children and youth.

About the Role

The Department of Child Studies and Social Work Faculty of Health Community and Education at Mount Royal University invites applications for parttime sessional appointment(s) for the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters which will commence September 4 2025 and end on December 22 2025 (Fall Term) and January 6 2026 April 25 2026 (Winter Term). The Program is seeking enthusiastic knowledgeable experienced and qualified early learning and childcare professional(s) with the ability to teach the following course(s).


FALL 2025
Name of Course: ELCCThe Profession of ELCC
Dates: September 4 December 22 2025
Lecture In Person Monday
This course provides students with an overview of the early childhood education profession and field. Students will begin to develop a personal philosophy of early years learning and increase their knowledge of child care standards various types of early education programs and professional roles. Students will learn the foundations of governing regulations and policies.

Name of Course: ELCC/802 Practicum III and ELCC/803 Practicum III 2 sections)
Dates: September 4 December 22 2025

Practicum In Person Off Campus Wednesday Thursday Friday
This course is a continuation of ELCC 2282 and provides students with opportunities to plan and facilitate learning experiences with children using a curriculum framework. Students will engage in personal selfreflection and goal setting based on developmental and sociocultural perspectives.

WINTER 2026
Name of Course: ELCC/801 Practicum II
Dates: January 6 April 25 2026
Seminar In Person Wednesday
Practicum In Person Off Campus (TBD)
Practicum II provides students with opportunities to integrate play and child development theories and practices in early learning settings. Students will gain experience in guiding childrens behaviors and supporting their learning in a variety of skill development areas. For two days each week students interact with children in an early childhood setting under supervision.

Dates: January 6 April 25 2026

Practicum In Person Off Campus (TBD)
Practicum II provides students with opportunities to integrate play and child development theories and practices in early learning settings. Students will gain experience in guiding childrens behaviors and supporting their learning in a variety of skill development areas. For two days each week students interact with children in an early childhood setting under supervision.

Responsibilities

Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline course activities lesson preparation assessment of student work provision of feedback and course D2L site; and

Administration:input of final grades upon course completion and regular communication with course lead and program coordinator.

Qualifications

The successful applicant(s) must have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and disciplinary field postsecondary teaching experience is considered an asset.
