Job Description

The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a fulltime Histology Technician I who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the daytoday operations of the AP Histology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In addition he/she will provide technical expertise to ensure proper functioning of the laboratory division for optimal quality efficiency productivity and turnaroundtimes.

Specific JobRelated Duties:

Prepares tissue sections for microscopic examination using a variety of techniques including fixation embedding cutting staining tissue slides for good diagnostic quality.

Prioritizes and accurately performs all designated departmental procedures including embedding microtomy staining (special stains) decalcification coverslipping and labeling.

Operates precision equipment and works with a variety of reagents and chemicals to make tissue abnormalities visible with a microscope.

Prepares and maintains solutions required for all procedures.

Identifies labels and processes tissue according to specifications.

Maintains equipment cleaning changing solutions taking temperatures and replenishing supplies and solutions as needed.

Responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.

The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country. The Department is growing very rapidly and there is great opportunity for advancement in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories.

The University offers a competitive salary package.

Shift: Monday Friday 10:30PM to 7:00AM (Night Shift Differential will apply)

Hourly range:
The hourly rate range for this position is $33.27 $41.64. When extending an offer of employment the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position the candidates work experience education/training key skills internal peer equity federal state and local laws contractual stipulations grant funding as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum education:
Related Undergraduate Study
Minimum experience:
1 year of laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Licenses/Certifications:
HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility within one year of employment.
Preferred Education/Experience:
HT/HTL certification from ASCP and 2 years of working experience in a Clinical Laboratory.
