Position Summary:
The Study Abroad Offices mission is to provide Rice undergraduates substantial transformational experiences that complement their Rice curriculum through academically rigorous and culturally enriching longterm international opportunities. Under the supervision of the director the Study Abroad Advisor is responsible for providing guidance to students on all aspects of study abroad during the entire process spanning from choosing the right program to returning from overseas. This includes information sessions as well as oneonone advising before and during the application process predeparture guidance support while overseas and reentry guidance.
The Study Abroad Advisor has a thorough understanding of all program types partners and providers as well as specific features of the offices approved programs and contributes to the ongoing assessment of programs in terms of Rice undergraduate curricular needs student support and health and safety. To provide highquality customized support the Study Abroad Advisor spends a considerable amount of time engaging with students oneonone guiding them to find the best program fit academically and personally while ensuring transfer credit and staying on track for timely graduation. Working closely with campus partners the Study Abroad Advisor contributes both to the students thorough predeparture preparations for a safe overseas experience as well as to the seamless administrative processing from study abroad registration to transfer credit to financial aid portability and to scholarship award selection. The Study Abroad Advisor utilizes the offices webbased study abroad management system coordinates promotional events and represents the office at meetings and events.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
Ideal candidates should have personal experience in studying abroad or working overseas as well as proficiency in a foreign language. Experience working fulltime at an institute of higher education in an advising role is also important.
Workplace Requirements:
Following successful completion of the sixmonth probationary period this position may be eligible for a hybrid role with most work conducted inoffice and remote work allowed 1 day per week to provide flexibility and support collaboration as job duties permit and in keeping with current Dean of Undergraduate policies. PerRice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range:$50000 $52000 annually contingent upon experience and qualifications.
