Description

In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under general supervision and reporting to the MRI supervisor or designate as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team providing clientcentered care the MRI Technologist performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) special procedures. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions forms and reports; preparing and monitoring supplies and equipment; patient monitoring; and operating acquisition equipment including archiving acquired images and computerized patient data systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training And Experience

Graduation from an accredited Magnetic Resonance program and designation as a certified Technologist in Magnetic Resonance (RTMR) with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). Three 3 years recent related experience including two 2 years MRI experience in an acute setting; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

CDH and WCG only: CPR Certificate Basic Life Support (BCLS) level

Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of image quality assessment and control and diagnostic equipment procedures radiation safety and quality control standards and practices.
  • Demonstrate proficient skills with the Microsoft suite of applications including Word and Excel and medical imaging computerized applications such as PACS.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate workload
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish priorities in collaboration with others
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary health care team
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to foster good public relations
  • Ability to operate related equipment including computer utilizing a variety of specialized software applications and electronic information systems
  • Demonstrated willingness to keep current with technological developments in the field
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position
