WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
A successful park ranger is curious observant physically active and interacts in a professional calm and patient manner with a variety of park users. Interest in the natural and cultural history of Southeast Alaska and caring about the stewardship of public land are desirable. The ability to work independently and with a variety of coworkers is essential.
The ranger prepares clear accurate and concise written reports as required. The ranger observes reports and mitigates hazardsin park ranger participates in training safety and informational meetings communicates with the public in a courteous and helpful manner provides information about rules regulations route finding and interpretation of the cultural and natural history of park areas. Most assigned duties are performed outdoors regardless of weather.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION:
The work schedule is typically 1:00 PM 9:00 PM Wednesday Sunday. Work schedule includes weekends evenings and holidays. The Parks Maintenance facility is located at 802 Front Street in downtown Douglas.
Under the general direction of the Lead Park Ranger the Park Ranger position will patrol municipally managed recreation areas parking areas and trails by foot mountain bike light trucks and small boats to enforce ordinances and regulations by issuing verbal or written warnings. This position may issue written citations when authorized.
This position may request assistance from law enforcement agencies or other emergency services when necessary. Conducts investigations of illegal activities collects evidence and documents findings. Patrols city parkland to ensure visitors and campers are complying with applicable rules and regulations. May trespass unruly campers and remove abandoned property as authorized by law. Cooperates with various CBJ and nonprofit social services to assist campers in need.
This position will also perform general maintenance in parks trails and facilities. The ranger may operate a variety of power machinery and tools including chainsaws and brushers. Performs minor field repairs to power tools and equipment as required. Picks up trash paints cleans facilities and performs minor repairs of park fixtures and equipment.
The summer season is busy with high demand from residents seasonal workers tourists and commercial operators for the use of parking recreation areas and trails. The rangers work cooperatively with Parks and Landscape Maintenance Juneau Police Department Juneau Community Service Officers Docks and Harbors and other CBJ staff on different projects. We also work with Trail Mix crews Youth Employment in Parks (YEP) crews and volunteers on trail and park projects.
Education: High school graduate or the equivalent.
Other: Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment; AND
A valid drivers license at time of appointment.
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
Note: This position receives designated citation authority as a municipal enforcement agent from the City Manager.
Desired Qualifications:
Prior experience in law enforcement natural resources management or related fields.
Current CPR and First Aid certifications.

Employees who meet the established criteria will receive a $1000 endofseason bonus.
The bonus will be paid less mandatory deductions at the successful completion of your seasonal work assignment.
