Job Title: CTE Health Professions Teacher

CTE Pathway: Health Professions

Job Summary: The Utica City School District is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable CTE Health Professions Teacher to lead a dynamic and industryaligned health sciences program. The ideal candidate will provide students with both theoretical knowledge and handson clinical training to expose them to careers in healthcare. This course will cover foundational health science concepts medical terminology patient care skills and industry certifications helping students transition into postsecondary education or entrylevel healthcare positions.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Development:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive health professions curriculum that aligns with New York State CTE standards and industry expectations.
  • Teach students foundational concepts including:
  • Human anatomy & physiology
  • Medical terminology & documentation
  • Infection control & patient safety
  • Basic patient care skills (vital signs CPR first aid etc.
  • Healthcare laws & ethics (HIPAA OSHA etc.
  • Provide handson training in clinical and laboratory settings to prepare students for realworld healthcare environments.
  • Utilize technology and simulation equipment to enhance student learning and clinical skill development.

Student Career Preparation & Certification Readiness:

Prepare students for industryrecognized certifications such as:

  • OSHA 10General Industry Certification
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Guide students in developing professional skills including communication teamwork and patient interaction.
  • Assist students with internships clinical rotations or workbased learning experiences in hospitals nursing homes clinics or rehabilitation centers.
  • Provide career counseling resume building and interview preparation for students pursuing healthcare careers.

Industry Partnerships & Community Engagement:

  • Establish partnerships with healthcare providers hospitals nursing facilities and higher education institutions to enhance student learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate guest speakers field trips and clinical experiences with industry professionals.
  • Stay up to date with healthcare industry trends regulations and advancements to ensure a relevant and modern curriculum.

Classroom & Laboratory Management:

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary learning environment that follows medical and OSHA safety standards.
  • Oversee and manage medical equipment laboratory supplies and simulation tools used for handson training.
  • Ensure students understand and follow healthcare safety protocols and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Industry Experience: A minimum of two years of handson experience in healthcare as a nurse medical assistant EMT paramedic or other healthcare professional.
  • Education: A bachelors degree in nursing allied health medical assisting or a related healthcare field is preferred. Candidates with a high school diploma and significant industry experience may qualify for a Transitional A Certificate.
  • Certification: Willingness to obtain or maintain a New York State CTE teaching certification (districtsupported professional development available).

Technical & Teaching Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of clinical procedures medical ethics and patient care standards.
  • Ability to teach health sciences concepts in an engaging and handson manner.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) medical simulation labs and healthcare technology.
  • Excellent communication classroom management and mentorship skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching training or mentoring experience in healthcare education.
  • Certifications such as CNA Instructor BLS Instructor or Medical Assisting Certification are a plus.

The Utica City School District serves a community of approximately 64500 city residents in an urban and multi cultural environment with a current enrollment of roughly 9644 students in its 13 schools Proctor High School Donovan Middle School JFK Middle School and 10 elementary schools. The Districts greatest asset is its diversity with more than 50 languages spoken and 16 of students being English language learners.

Elementary The Districts elementary schools integrate a vibrant curriculum across all grade levels and subject areas aligning with the New York State Learning Standards. The District is also investing in the realignment of math goals instruction and curriculum to focus on researchbased best practices in mathematics that are proven to increase student performance outcomes. In all subject areas there is an understanding that developing foundational skills will support students in bridging gaps in learning. Middle School The focus at the Districts middle schools is to ensure that students are provided with equitable opportunities to successfully transition from elementary to high school. Both middle schools offer opportunities for students to succeed at every learning level with dedicated classes for English Language Learners and students with disabilities as well as honors/advanced studies. The Family and Career Sciences and Technology programs have incorporated science technology engineering and math topics into each curriculum to help prepare students for the Career and Technical Education opportunities available at the high school.

High School Proctor High School provides numerous avenues for students to achieve the Districts vision. This is accomplished through supportive and adaptive special education and English language learner programming a robust honors and Advanced Placement curriculum and partnerships with postsecondary institutions including Mohawk Valley Community College and Syracuse Universitys Project Advance. The District most recently embarked upon a groundbreaking initiative working with community and business partners to create innovative Career and Technical Education programming for its high school students. Proctors Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (NJROTC) music art and drama programs along with numerous extracurricular activities and athletics offer additional avenues to showcase students talents and interests and support them throughout their school experience.

$42086$801845 (without a Masters Degree)

$45011$95002 (with a Masters Degree)
