Summary
The Department of World Languages and Culturesinvites applications for two fulltime nonrenewable (oneyear) Assistant Teaching Professor positions with a start date of August 2025. This is a 9month appointment.
Information about Program and College
The Department of World Languages and Cultures is one of 17 academic units in the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College aligned with the universitys strategic plan is to ensure that our students graduate careerready to meet the worlds challenges and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching scholarly/creative work and/or service toward achieving inclusive excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success providing resources and support within the Deans Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools leadership teams in other colleges and universityserving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Through these connections we have developed a comprehensive cohortbased mentorship program to support the professional growth and advancement of faculty across all disciplines and ranks. World Languages and Cultures focuses on human culture history language philosophy and the arts exploring how people express themselves communicate and make sense of the world. Our program helps students develop strong communication skills crosscultural competency global awareness critical thinking and problemsolving adaptability and emotional intelligence. Were living in an era of rapid change. Professionals who can learn quickly think flexibly and navigate diverse work environments are in high demand. Those fluent in multiple languages especially will thrive in multicultural workplaces and leadership roles. in Spanish: The design of Spanish is based on the integration of language culture linguistics and literature. Our course of study reflects the nature of our most important goal: we address the reality that Spanish is spoken by many different ethnic groups whose cultures history and customs modify and enrich these languages. Graduates of our undergraduate and graduate Spanish programs have been very successful in effectively holding positions in businesses government agencies and schools.

Essential Functions
The primary responsibility of these positions is to teach core elementary and intermediate language courses in Spanish. Responsibilities also include providing service at the department level.
Minimum Qualifications
- M.A. in Spanish or related field (e.g. Applied Linguistics Hispanic Linguistics Second Language Acquisition etc..
- Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduatesat the elementary and/or intermediate levels in Spanish.
- Native or nearnative fluency in both Spanish and English.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Spanish.
- Experience teaching in a coordinated undergraduate language program.
