The King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) has a staffing need for a skilled and experienced Industrial Painter at our West Point Treatment Plant. This is a great opportunity for an individual who likes a variety of work working with a diverse team that supports the Operations and Maintenance of the West section and conveyance systems. About the Role:
This position will be responsible for performing fully proficient (journeylevel) interior and exterior painting including applying all types of coats and sealants for a wastewater treatment plants equipment and facilities including pumps pipes floors walls steps and ceilings. Duties also include operating cleaning and maintaining all equipment materials and supplies used in painting assignment including the proper use storage handling and disposing of hazardous paints solvents and materials issues and generate work orders to initiate the work.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
- Identify painting work/issues and generate work orders to initiate the work.
- Prepare a variety of surfaces for and apply protective coatings to heavy equipment such as pumps and motors buildings facilities and associated structures such as but not limited to floors walls steps and ceilings found at a wastewater treatment facility. Finish drywall.
- Operate clean and maintain a variety of equipment related to the application of protective coatings.
- Remove graffiti using a sandblaster or stripper. Sand and refinish surfaces.
- Erect scaffolding operate equipment such as high lift scissor lift forklift and power tools.
- Mix match and blend protective coatings and sealants to preserve the life cycle of equipment and facilities.
- Prepare time and materials estimates; order materials and supplies; schedule equipment labor and materials for each project.
- Design and fabricate signs banners and lettering for roadways and vehicles.
- Prepare progress reports and maintain material and labor cost records.
- Work with external contractors to ensure that painting projects are completed within established guidelines and standards.
- Prepare painting bid proposals for capital projects.
- Follow the industry standard for the proper use storage handling and disposal of all hazardous materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
- Journey level knowledge 35 years) in the application of standard practices materials and tools of the painting trade.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or two years of technical schooling industrial painting and/or the equivalent related experience at a Journeyman level
- Experience in pavement painting and markings to include but not limited to the use of a Laser Stripper and the use of torchdown equipment.
- Experience in the use and application of various paints coating sealants varnishes enamels paint removers and their properties in an industrial setting such as appropriate use on equipment and machinery.
- Experience in the preparation mixing blending harmonizing and contrasting of colors.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards of the painting trade and experience taking precautionary measures to be used while performing painting responsibilities.
- Experience with epoxy submersion paints and all types of surface preparation and applications.
- Experience in the techniques and principles associated with painting but not limited to plastic wood drywall concrete steel brick asphalt aluminum
- Experience and ability to work in confine spaces.
- Experience in operating High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray equipment
- Skill in using a computer and associated software including work order systems
- Experience in working with vendors and engineers for assigned work assignments
- Skill in oral and written communication techniques and principles to read write and follow oral and written instructions; skill in providing and exchanging information with the public at work sites
- Skill in working with a diverse group of individuals in varying occupations in a team environment
- Experience and knowledge in Safety and Hazardous Material and the Plants Process Safety Management and all PSM Chemicals and processes
- Ability to work at heights up to 30 feet and awkward positions with all required PPE to complete assignments

- Valid unencumbered Washington State Drivers License.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
- Work Location: West Point Treatment Plant 1400 Discovery Park Blvd. Seattle WA 98199
- Work Schedule: This fulltime position works a 40hour work week with either a 58 or 410 work schedule. The treatment plants are operated 24/7. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The position requires the ability to work any assigned schedule and required to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division)
- Physical Requirement:Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds use ladders and there is exposure to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors.
