REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Associates Degree from completion of an approved SLPA twoyear program which prepares a student to obtain Licensure as an SLPA through the South Dakota Board of Examiners.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Successful completion of at least one hundred 100 hours of supervised fieldwork experiences.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant handeye/mindeye coordination hearing; intermittent keyboarding use of wrists hands fingers speaking typing and writing. Frequent filing sitting standing and walking

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

South Dakota SLPA Licensure

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  1. Assists the SLP with speech and language screenings and assessments.
  2. Implement Individual Education Plan goals and interventions developed by the SLP.
  3. Document student performance on records charts or graphs and report this information to the SLP.
  4. Assist with clerical duties such as preparing materials programming augmentative communication devices and scheduling students.
  5. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Support the SLP in data collection and inservice training.
  7. Adhere to responsibilities of SLPAs and refrain from performing tasks that are the responsibility of the SLP.

Responsibilities Outside the Scope of Practice

  1. Perform standardized or nonstandardized diagnostic tests.
  2. Participate in IEP meetings without the presence of the supervising SLP or other designated SLP.
  3. Provide interpretative information to the student family or others regarding the students progress.
  4. Write develop or modify a students IEP in any way.
  5. Sign any IEP documents; the SLPA should sign any informal treatment notes for review and cosign with the supervising SLP as requested.

PAY INFORMATION

Employment Contract 9 Month Level F

Pay Day: Last working day of each month.

HOURS & FTE

Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch

1.0 FTE 40 hours per week 9 months
