About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Director Leadership Giving plays a key leadership role while implementing and leading strategies to advance the leadership giving program at Northeastern University. The Director Leadership Giving will work in close collaboration with University Advancement and college program and unit staff to Identify and build relationships with prospective donors develop strategies for cultivation of these leadership level donors and prospects prepare for and make direct solicitations to these leadership level donors and prospects and provide exceptional and intentional stewardship to all donors.

By working collaboratively across the university and creating strategies that will engage the next generation of donors promote the growth and success of the leadership giving program in terms of both development activity and philanthropic giving to all colleges programs and units.

Manage a portfolio of leadership giving donors and prospects from a select group of college program or units from a select group of college program or unit of alumni parents and friends to both engage these donors and prospects to make gifts at the leadership giving level $10000 $100000. The Director will hold facetoface phone and virtual meetings with donors/prospects as needed to move the constituent closer to a leadership level gift. T

Manage and supervise a team of at least two leadership giving frontline fundraisers who are responsible for the identification qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship of donors with the capacity to give at the $10000 $100000 level. The Director will aid in the growth and development of their direct reports as frontline leadership giving fundraisers. This management and supervision will include but not be limited to weekly/biweekly fundraising activity meetings monthly progress meetings and quarterly portfolio reviews. The Director will prepare and present semiannual and fiscal yearend performance reviews in conjunction with the Executive Director. Additionally the Director will analyze individual and group leadership giving data and activity reports to best guide their direct reports in their career growth and development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a Bachelors degree with six to eight years of progressive development experience.

  • Proven success in fundraising including but not limited to donor/prospect portfolio management and making gift solicitations at the annual gift $1000 $10000 and leadership gift $10000 $100000 level(s) is required. Major gift level fundraising experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Higher education fundraising experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Proven success in managing and supervising frontline fundraising staff resulting in increased fundraising results and enhanced fundraising skills is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of development including but not limited to gift processing portfolio management prospect research and donor stewardship is required.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills are necessary for building both internal and external relationships with donors prospects deans faculty staff and colleagues.
  • Abilty to travel required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Donor/prospect activities 50

  • Manage a portfolio of prospective 6080 donor/prospects at the leadership level who exhibit considerable promise for evolving to major principal and planned gift level capacity over time
  • Identify qualify cultivate solicit and steward this portfolio of donor/prospects to strategically enhance their giving potential and likelihood
  • Work to connect with donors/prospects at the leadership giving level who exhibit the potential to give at the major and principal giving levels
  • Achieve a high level of engagement and financial support from these constituents
  • Work across University Advancement and the greater university to build relationships that will enhance active solicitations of leadership giving donor/prospects to help move these prospects to higher giving levels
  • Meet and exceed established metrics and benchmarks
  • Utilize Advancement data management system Ascend to log activity create call and progress reports and maintain data integrity of leadership giving donors and prospects
  • Execute an effective stewardship plan for this portfolio of donors/prospects
  • Collaborate with University Advancement colleagues and staff along with college program and unit colleagues and staff to enhance cultivation solicitation and stewardship as necessary

2 Management and Supervision activities 40

  • Manage and supervise at least two Leadership Giving frontline fundraising staff members to increase fundraising results to benefit Leadership Giving and the respective college program or unit and to help enhance their development and fundraising skill set.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Executive Director Leadership Givingto hire on board train and develop Leadership Giving staff and maximizeGiving program results and growth.
  • Hold fundraising activity meetings and quarterly portfolio reviews with direct reports.
  • Prepare and present quarterly semiannual and yearly performance appraisals for direct reports in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Operate as a flexible and nimble fundraiser and manager as the Leadership Giving program evolves.
