ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1965 the ChineseAmerican Planning Council Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American immigrant and lowincome communities. Today CPC is the nations largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City including early childhood education schoolage care youth services workforce development community services and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017 CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY its organizationwide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2022 our core programs and emergency services reached 200000 people living in all five boroughs and all 51 city council districts. In the summer of 2022 CPC was recognized as the number one Chinese American organization in New York City to recommend to a Chinese immigrant looking for inlanguage and culturally competent resources according to a recent survey. Funded through Robin Hood Foundation Project Gateway provides high school youths from participating schools advocacy opportunities to practice and grow their leadership skills college access workshops and filed trips to help students get back on track for college group mentoring services to build social and emotional learning skills among students and coach them for career readiness skills as well as providing guidance for SYEP applications.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide High School students individual and/or in a small group setting homework help assistance and tutoring in the following subject matter (Preferably in STEM/English)
- Mathematics (e.g. Algebra Geometry Trigonometry Calculus)
- Science (e.g. Biology Chemistry and Physics)
- English Language Art
- History
- Provide academic guidance and mentorship to fellow students as they navigate high school and into adulthood.
- Assist with the administrative aspects of the CPC programming through data entry compiling filing and organizing participant folders.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Prior tutoring experience more so with the high school youth population.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for youth development.
- Bilingual in English and Arabic Mandarin Cantonese and/or Spanish is preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW
- $16.50 $16.50 per hour; 20 25 hours per week with occasional weekends as needed
- CPC offers eligible temporary staff members mandatory benefits including paid New York State sick time
