Job Description
Job Summary:
Perform basic and advanced level tasks involved in preventative maintenance repair and renovations of campus buildings systems and equipment to include but not limited to doors windows floors ceilings partitions office equipment/furniture; cut keys; repair install and maintain locks catches handles openers closers panic bars and appropriate hardware. Select materials and techniques used to maintain campus facilities and position is also considered to be essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work and will be required to periodically service as part of the structural team oncall rotation.
Supervision:
This position reports to the Structural Supervisor and will receive dayto day direction and guidance from the Structural Assistant Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review blueprints building codes specifications and sketches; compile material list(s) and determine work details and procedures.
- Provide assistance with repairs and the maintenance of buildings systems and equipment including painting.
- Assist with key lock and door operator related maintenance needs and work directly with the key shop coordinator to ensure continued key and lock related services.
- Perform preventative maintenance along with installing locks catches handles openers closers panic bars and all required hardware to suite intended use of the doors or other equipment. Install repair and maintain automatic/electronic doors specialized equipment used in the operation of entryways such as card readers and doormounted closures and floor closures.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment to include key blanks lock parts knobs and cylinders hinges closures and related hardware used in the installation and repair of doors.
- Perform minor roof/window repairs and replace damaged ceiling tile(s). Build repair and install counter tops benches partitions floors doors building framework and trim; hang sheetrock.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment; inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work. Assist in ensuring security of vehicles tools and other equipment.
- Comply with all applicable standards policies and procedures including safety procedures and maintain a clean work area. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.
- Participate in review and evaluation of existing modes of operation and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.
- Participate in workshops seminars training sessions and staff meetings as directed.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years or 6000 hours work experience in construction trades (carpentry painting doors windows etc) including experience in cutting keys repairing locks repair and maintenance of electronic lock systems installation repair and maintenance of electronic/automatic doors panic bars and specialized equipment; ability to read schematics and blueprints and perform repairs and installations; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision ability to lift and carry 80 lbs. experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing/measuring devices; a valid NYS Drivers License and adherence to the policies set forth by the Office of Risk Management is required. Successful completion of a background check is required. Preferred: One year of prior experience working as a locksmith and/or directly with installing key control systems and hardware.
Work Environment:
Most work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible safe indoor/outdoor environment. The incumbent must be able to operate power/hand tools used in daytoday operation of duties. The incumbent may be required to use scaffolding lifts climb ladders and stand for long periods of time while using power/hand tools and equipment.
This position is 40 hours per week 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Rate:
$23.6 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.
