Job Description Summary:

The Post Doctoral Fellow in The Soboloff Lab in the Division of Genetic Environmental and Inhalational Disease at the University of Kansas Medical Center will explore the physiology and pathophysiology of storeoperated Ca2 entry. Research areas include melanoma pancreatic cancer T cell activation and bone maintenance utilizing techniques including advanced microscopy approaches Western analysis ChIP qPCR and general molecular biology.

Job Duties

Research Overview: Design and conduct experiments and interpret data under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI).

  • Design and conduct experiments under the guidance of the PI to advance research objectives.

  • Analyze experimental data and interpret results for use in publications grant applications and determining the next steps in the research.

  • Perform cellular and molecular biology experiments pertaining to define the molecular mechanisms facilitating Ca2dependent changes in cell function.

  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.

  • Collaborate with the PI to design and execute independent experiments.

  • Assist in the supervision and training of students.

  • Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook documenting all calculations procedures results and other relevant research information.

Expectations: The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor record and interpret the results of their experiments in an (electronic) laboratory notebook prepare publicationquality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peerreviewed literature.

  • Read literature articles develop new ideas and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.

  • Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their PI faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.

  • Present research aims and findings at department seminars and at local and national scientific meetings. Write and publish their results as first author in abstracts manuscripts and posters.

Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.

Required Qualifications

Education: Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in Molecular/Cellular Biology Biochemistry or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • Graduate training in laboratory research.

  • Cell culture animal handling microscopy and standard wet lab experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Experience developing and conducting experiments in cancer immunology and/or bone.

  • Experience with immunocytochemistry and protein biochemistry.

  • Experience working with BSL 2 pathogens.

  • Background in Molecular/Cellular Biology Anatomy & Physiology Immunology or related discipline.

  • Established publication record.

Skills

  • Proficiency in generating and analyzing large datasets.

  • Excellent analytical organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
