Job Description
The Department of Residential Life Housing and Food Services (RLHFS) at the University of Nevada Reno is committed to providing students with resources and experiences that will complement their academics. The department is committed to providing services for our residents that far exceed mere room and board. The Graduate Assistant for Leadership and Programming Initiatives position is an integral part of the department team. Under the guidance and supervision of the Coordinator for Student Leadership & Activities (Student Engagement) the Graduate Assistant for Leadership & Programming Initiatives (Student Engagement) will support Residential Life community development initiatives while gaining practical experience coordinating and implementing events programs and marketing to promote the campus connection and retention of oncampus residents. The Graduate Assistant will gain an understanding of oncampus leadership and programming initiatives.
The Graduate Assistant will have the opportunity to coadvise the Residence Hall Association (RHA) the second largest student leadership organization on campus. RHA works to provide leadership opportunities for residence hall students. The Graduate Assistant will also be able to oversee community development including initiatives that promote and facilitate student growth and development.
Responsibilities
The Graduate Assistants responsibilities will be influenced by the development of the Residence Hall Association and the community development of the residence halls. However typical responsibilities include:
Advise the Vice President for Engagement.
Serve as the advisor for the Programming Board including but not limited to attending/assisting with meetings assisting with program development and providing direction for student leaders.
Cosupervise the Board of Directors
Assist in the oversight of the RHA Resource Center including but not limited to scheduling hours ordering supplies and providing direction to student leaders working the Center.
Assist in the development collection and review of assessment strategies for initiative improvement.
Assist with and sit on the department committees and workgroup.
Assist with oversight of community development standards for the residence halls.
Oversees marketing initiatives in relation to RHA development including social media.
Assist with training of the RHA Executive Board and Board of Directors.
Assist with researching and implementing residence hall community development initiatives best practices as needed
Attend weekly 1:1 meeting with supervisor
Coadvise the National Residence Hall Honorary chapter including but not limited to attending/assisting with meetings assisting with program development and providing direction for student leaders.
May require availability during nonbusiness hours for night weekend and holiday programming and events
Other duties as assigned including various administrative tasks needed
Required Qualifications
To be eligible for an assistantship candidates must be admitted to a degreegranting program at the University of Nevada Reno and be in good academic standing.
Candidates must maintain an overall graduate studies GPA of at least 3.00.
Candidates must be continuously enrolled in at least 6 graduate level credits throughout the duration of the assistantship.
Available during nonbusiness hours for night weekend and some holidays for programming events and activities.

Candidate is proficient in MS Excel and MS Word
Candidate has excellent written and verbal skills
Candidate has interpersonal skills
Candidate has the ability to multitask
Candidate has the ability to work in a team environment and independently as needed.
Candidate has the ability to travel or if expected to drive a state vehicle candidate must have Nevada State Drivers License or the ability to obtain one within required time period
Candidate can carry out physical activity requirements commensurate with duties of the position i.e. walk up multiple flights of stairs in case of emergency lift 25 pounds etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous residence life experience and/or pursuing graduate study in the Higher Education Administration program.
Previous experience with RHA NRHH Student Organizations.
Schedule
While the hours required for the position will vary depending on the time of year and the needs of the department Graduate Assistants will work an average of 20 hours per week.
Compensation Grade
Graduate Assistant
This 10month renewable position (with potential option to work summers with a separate agreement as needed) includes the following:
A stipend of $1700.00 per month
A board plan of 50 meal swipes per semester 50 swipes for Fall; 50 swipes for Spring) while classes are in session
Medical insurance coverage
Instate tuition paid for up to 10 credits per semester.
Outofstate students will receive a waiver of the difference between outofstate tuition and instate tuition for up to four semesters for Masters degreeseeking students and six semesters for Doctoral degreeseeking students
The student is financially responsible for all student fees relevant to their status as a Graduate Student.
Professional development funds for conference attendance may also be available.
