JOB TITLE:
Mechanic I
PLEASE NOTE:
Must be able to pass all drug and/or alcohol screening required by the UW Drug and Alcohol Policy
JOB PURPOSE:
Perform minor mechanical repairsoverhaul and maintain fleet vehicles and proper performance and safety of the University of Wyoming fleet. Assist in all other repairs and preventative maintenance as needed.
This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyomings Employee Handbook. Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose test and repair malfunctioning equipment with the use of diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Perform skilled repair and maintenance on a variety of gasoline and dieselpowered equipment and vehicles such as replacing bearings axle seals brake master cylinders etc.
- Perform welding/cutting operations and minor body repairs.
- Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance and repair work.
- Perform routine vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance inspections check and replace fluids check lights and other electrical system components etc. Replace exhaust system components.
- Disassemble components and inspect parts for wear. Repair overhaul replace and rebuild water and fuel pumps air conditioning components compressors radiators etc. Rewire electrical systems. Replace realign and adjust brakes and suspension components.
- Safely operate tools equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Maintain all shop equipment for safe working conditions.
- Read and interpret vehicle manuals and schematics to perform complex repairs/maintenance.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
- Operate and testdrive vehicles as needed.
- Coordinate outside service calls; assist in assigning/prioritizing workload.
- May assist supervisor in assigning and/or scheduling work ordering parts and managing work orders.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Vocational School onthejob training or associates degree
Experience: 2 years workrelated experience
Required licensure certification registration or other requirements:
- Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
- Ability to obtain First/Aid CPR certification within 12 months of hire
- ASE EntryLevel Technician (Automotive) or Professional level (Automotive) Certification within 12 months of hire
- EPA Section 608 Certification within 6 months of hire
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Engine Repair Experience
- Automatic Transmission Repair Experience
- Brakes Repair Experience
