Current District security personnel will be given priority in hiring. Security Personnelmust commit to working the entire summer school session No vacation or deduct leave will be approved.This is a parttime temporary position. Non bargaining unit members will earn the substitute rate of pay.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position has the responsibility for all aspects of campus safety and school security needs. Employee is to maintain an orderly and safe school environment for students and staff.
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- May be required to pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- Must commit to work the entire session.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Must attend inservice trainings or other meetings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their jobrelated activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Previous security and/or police related experience within the past three 3 years.
- Successful experience working with secondaryaged students within the last three years.
- Strong interpersonal skills conflict resolution capabilities ability to collect objective data diffuse tense situations and mediate conflicts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated capability to writing clearly and correct investigative reports.
- Competency with networked computer systems and an ability to use such software programs as Microsoft Office and School Systems.
- Ability to manage unpredictable situations; be flexible diplomatic cooperative and patient while maintaining enthusiasm and exercising good judgment in difficult situations.
- Possess current first aid card/CPR card or willingness to acquire one.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Excellent attendance punctuality and dependability; evidence of ability to be selfdisciplined and a selfstarter.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- AA or BA degree or equivalent in related field.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and maintain order in and about school property including restrooms parking lots hallways and areas on and near campus where students congregate.
- Maintain visibility and be immediately available for assisting staff and students in routine and emergency situations.
- Assist in disciplinary actions as requested and/or required.
- Investigate all reported law violations and complete written incident reports as may be appropriate.
- Confront intruders and report all observed violations (trespassers truants and law violators) to the appropriate administrator.
- Work cooperatively with other staff in maintaining a safe orderly environment for all.
- Conduct student mediations and interventions as needed.
- Assist in supervising and maintaining order at afterschool activities dances and athletic events as assigned.
- Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior toward students staff and parents.
- Nurture and give attention to students with special needs.
- Work effectively within a context with multicultural and atrisk students.
- Support the buildings extracurricular programs.
- Write reports and communicate with parents students and staff about student management issues.
- Interact with Police Student Resource Officer as needed.
- Work with principal to maintain building policies and procedures.
- Provide strong positive interpersonal skills that diffuse situations and reduce tension.
- Lock and unlock buildings daily.
- Check I.D. badges of every person entering the building during summer school hours.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality. Applicant must work the entire session.

- Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 1826 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

- Physical Hazards:While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from 10 degrees F to 100 degrees F . The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
