Job Description
Kuiper is developing a constellation of low earth orbit satellites enabling broadband internet service for the unserved and underserved populations of the world. Kuipers Customer Terminal organization is responsible for developing low cost Consumer Terminals based on phased array antennas and commercial PCB processes/materials. Both projects are a first for Amazon requiring unique architecture hardware processes and tools developed within Kuiper to scale to a diverse set of customers in the next 510 years.
Senior Hardware Engineers at Project Kuiper lead crossfunctional efforts related to the consumer terminal antenna board development. They are the singlethreaded owner of the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) collaborating with their peers from silicon RF antenna technical program management and mechanical from concept/architecture phase through functional environmental testing and integration phases. The Senior Hardware Engineer will have a complete understanding of how their design changes impact downstream partners such as operations supply chain product management and reliability. They will daily make highvalue judgements on tactical vs strategic decisions to achieve the system performance targets and maintain schedules despite unexpected challenges.
Senior Hardware Engineers solve problems with increasing technical and operational ambiguity and work crossfunctionally to do so. Additionally their work can be either a PCBA board leader driving a crossfunctional team or a domain expert delivering optimized subsystems. In both cases they are expected to work across functional boundaries influence peer groups and ensure the hardware they are delivering is optimized at a system level.
As a part of the team working on the development of advanced Customer Terminal products Senior Hardware Engineers own or contribute to the following technical areas.
Be the singlethreaded owner for PCBA development from concept through production
Design highspeed digital and/or RF circuitry in collaboration with various teams
Design and optimize different blocks of electronics subsystems
Schematic capture and lead PCB layout
Lead PCB vendor engagement for DFM review
Optimize PCB stackup for cost
Design DC/DC power supply and Point of Load
Support flowdown requirement definitions and generate test plans/procedures
Board bringup and perform test campaigns of modules and subsystems
Support design of automated test systems test fixtures and factory test
Support the transition of the designs to mass production
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
BS degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering or equivalent experience
5 years of experience in highspeed digital design and/or RF designs
3 years of experience in signal and power integrity design and analysis
3 years of experience of mixed signal PCB layout designs
3 years of experience in using schematic capture tool and PCB layout viewer
2 years of experience board bring up and debugging in lab environment
2 years of experience using lab equipment including soldering irons handtools oscilloscopes logic analyzers and spectrum analyzers
Masters of Science or PhD in electrical engineering or computer engineering
Familiarity with analog electronics fundamentals (transistor opamps filters etc)
Familiarity with DC power supply designs
Familiarity with Hyperlynx Signal Integrity simulation tool
Familiarity with EMI/EMC design mitigation
Experience with Mentor Graphics or Cadence layout tools
Previous work experience in a programming languages
Proficiency in developing lab test programs for instrument control

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
