Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway where joining our Mechanical Department means contributing to the backbone of our nations rail infrastructure. The Electrician Diesel Engine position is critical for ensuring the reliable operation and safety of locomotive electrical systems and shop machinery.
This is a fulltimeposition 40 hrs/wk) and is subject to seniority and governed by union agreement. Assigned shift may be one of three 8hour shifts. Mechanical shops operate 24 hours/day 7 days/week.
Travel is minimal.
Training is company paid onthejob paid training.
Key responsibilities may include:
Testing inspecting and repairing electrical components of locomotive systems and shop machinery.
Maintaining and repairing locomotive alternators generators motors AC/DC power control systems electrical cabinets lighting batteries and wiring.
Inspecting adjusting troubleshooting and repairing electrical components of shop equipment (drop tables welding mechanical and electromagnetic equipment) and performing preventative maintenance to ensure proper function.
Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot cold rain snow and sleet) walking and performing work on uneven surfaces working on or around loud noises fumes and heavy/moving machinery.

Relocation assistance is not available and there is a 60day probationary period for Journeymen and 120day probationary period for Apprentices.

Basic Qualifications:
- Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future.
- At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed above.
- Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
- Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
- Able toworkthe above shift/hours.
- Abilityto read write and communicate (speak hear and understand) in English.
- Abilityto lift and carry up to 50lbswithout assistance.
- Abilityto visually distinguish colors red blue green yellow and lunar (clear light)
- Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and nonverbal sounds (signals alarms etc. in the work environment.
- Ability to use handsanduse hand toolsto perform activities involving holding grasping turning and pulling.
- Ability toclimb ladders; get on/off equipment.
- Ability tobend walkstand andsitoccasionally with breaks.
- Abilitytooccasionallywork at various heights above the ground including working on top of a locomotive.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 years of practical experience in electrical work
Union membership is with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and union dues are required per union agreement.
