Other Conditions: Lecturer applicant pool for Summer 2025. Positions are parttime temporary nontenure and contingent upon course offerings sufficient student enrollment position clearance and availability of funding. Must be available to teach courses during the day evening weekend and/or via distance learning as needed.


The Graduate Certificate in Kahuawaiola Indigenous Teacher Education (Kahuawaiola) prepares teacher candidates for professional licensure as mauli ola educators who focus on mauli ola Hawaiian language medium contexts. A new cohort begins every summer and these courses are taught only in the summer by content area educators; this summer the program is from June.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach one of the following courses:
    1. KED 625A Phys Ed Hawn & Indig Medium Ed 1
    2. KED 626A Science Hawn & Indig Medium Ed 2
    3. KED 627A Math in Hawn & Indig Medium Ed 2
    4. KED 628A Arts in Hawn & Indig Medium Ed 1
  2. Conduct the course through the medium of Hawaiian.
  3. Maintain a minimum of 1 office hour per week during the term of the course.
  4. Prepare course syllabi and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  5. Commitment to Kumu Honua Mauli Ola educational philosophy of the College.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters degree in Hawaiian Studies or related field from an accredited college or university or any combination of education/training/experience that equates to this credential for purposes of providing instruction in Hawaiian Studies (e.g. Bachelors degree with relevant certifications or a minimum of four years of experience in the appropriate subject area).
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach content specific courses through Hawaiian in Hawaiian Immersion/Medium classrooms.
  3. Fluency to instruct courses through the medium of Hawaiian.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated highquality instruction and teaching effectiveness at the college level.
  2. Experience in teaching through the medium of Hawaiian within the P12 grade levels.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with university or college age students.
