Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship in Psychology
Enhancing Health Advancing Health Technology and Reducing Health Disparities

The Department of Psychology at Arizona State University invites applications for one postdoctoral scholar position in Enhancing Health Advancing Health Technology and Reducing Health Disparities. This position complements the development of ASU Health initiatives which includes understanding and addressing human behavior to promote wellbeing and optimal health outcomes particularly for vulnerable populations.

This position is located at the Arizona State University at the Tempe campus. All postdoctoral fellowship positions are for one year. Options for an additional one or two years of funding or a transition to a tenuretrack position may be offered depending on the fellows progress and training needs. Tenuretrack appointments will require a process of review within the designated tenure home unit.

The postdoctoral scholar selected will join a cohort of other postdoctoral scholars at ASUas part of the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The program aims to support thecareer development of outstanding Ph.D. recipients with great potential for advancing the ASUCharter into a future tenuretrack appointment at ASU.

The program seeks applicants whose professional preparedness experience andaccomplishments are informed by experiences working with and within groups historicallyunderrepresented in higher education in the United States. In cases where pools of qualified applicantsare strong priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate through prior actions andachievements intentional and actionable commitment to the values expressed in the ASUCharter. Such contributions include research or creative activities focused on empoweringunderserved populations as well as teaching mentorship and service efforts that promote equitable access andinclusion in fields where historically excluded populations are underrepresented.

The Department of Psychology is part of The College ofLiberal Arts and Sciences and is home to 55 tenure track faculty members specializing in six doctoral areas: Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology Clinical Psychology Cognitive Science Developmental Psychology Quantitative Psychology and Social Psychology as well as robust graduate (terminal masters degrees) and undergraduate BA/BS psychology and neuroscience degrees. Our faculty have a long history of successful collaborations innovative science and national recognition for excellence in researching teaching and mentoring. We are committed to fostering inclusive pathways for the care and success of our scholars leveraging our strengths in health and health behavior change research. Our culturally informed scholars apply communityembedded theory and methods to address health disparities and improve the wellbeing of underserved populations.

The scholar will be partnered with our current faculty who have expertise in various healthrelated topics including chronic pain aging genetics neurobiology womens health and interventions health behavior change judgment and decision making as well as respiratory viruses and vaccine effectiveness obesity body image sexual risk behaviors addiction science and machinelearning approaches to treatment.

The Department of Psychology is committed to providing individualized mentorship and career development to ensure the selected scholar is well prepared to succeed in a potential future tenuretrack appointment. Faculty will assist the scholar in identifying activities to enhance a scaffolded transition to a tenuretrack position. These activities include focused development of: 1 teaching such as course development and professional development activities (observations workshops) 2 research including lab development plans (structure grantsubmissions website/tool development) and 3 professional networking involving identification/connection via mentors in national and international networks of scholars within the chosen research/training area. Career development and community building will also occur through programmatic support at the ASU Graduate Colleges Postdoctoral Affairs Office.

Job Duties:

The Presidential Postdoctoral Scholar will present his/her/their research at a scholarlyconference.

The Presidential Postdoctoral Scholar will present his/her/their research work in apresentation to the Psychology community of scholars and students towards the end of thespring semester of their first year.

The scholar will receive training and support in grant writing; the selected candidate may have the opportunity to work with other scholars in applying for small and large grants including those from the William T Grant Foundation National Science Foundation National Institutes of Health Department of Defense as well as agencies connected to the Ford and Spencer Foundations.



Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in psychology or a related field by the time of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:

A scholar whose work is multidisciplinary and who will thrive in a multidisciplinaryenvironment.

Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following: Enhancing Health Advancing Health Technology or Reducing Health Disparities.

The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people both academic andnonacademic.

Ability and willingness to present work in progress to the Psychology community.

Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty staff students and communities toadvance the principles of the ASU Charter.
