The Team
Upstarts Onboarding Experience team is dedicated to creating a seamless loan application process that allows customers to quickly and easily complete all steps required to fund their loan. By building exceptional customercentric experiences for both Upstart borrowers and internal Operations teams this team plays a crucial role in making Upstart the premier destination for consumer credit. This team focuses on our flagship product Personal Loans and directly impacts our growth in this business by reducing friction for applicants and improving the efficiency of our operations.
As a Senior Engineering Manager you will be leading engineers in high quality and delivery of solutions to reduce borrower wait time throughout the application process for Upstarts flagship personal loans product. Youll collaborate closely with Product Management Product Design Operations Compliance and other crossfunctional teams to drive both largescale initiatives and smaller datadriven experiments that optimize customer and business outcomes. Youll lead engineering efforts to uplevel both internal Operations tooling and borrowerfacing user experiences in order to shorten application times simplify our processes and grow the business.

- Technical Leadership
- Oversee the design development and implementation of cross functional projects which drive business outcomes.
- Ensure the reliability performance and scalability of customer facing products leveraging best practices in software engineering.
- Collaborate with architecture and infrastructure teams to ensure alignment with broader engineering goals.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with product manager product designer engineering leaders across Upstart legal operations analytics and compliance teams to gather requirements and ensure solutions meet business needs and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to keep them informed of project status risks and opportunities.
- Project Management
- Manage project timelines and resources to deliver highquality product solutions on time.
- Implement frameworks to ensure efficient project and continuous delivery.
What were looking for:
Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related field.
- 8 years of experience in software engineering with at least 3 years on productfocused engineering teams.
- 3 years of management experience.
- Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in any programming language.
- Experience with delivering full stack solutions to customers.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS Azure or Google Cloud) and microservices architecture.
- Leadership Skills
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with a track record of building and leading successful engineering teams.
- Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to make datadriven decisions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Other Requirements
- Experience with agile development methodologies and project management tools like Jira.
- Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest industry trends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering products customers love.
- Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails.
Position Location This role is available in the following locations: Remote Austin TX San Mateo CA and Columbus OH
Time Zone Requirements This team operates on the East/West time zones.
Travel Requirements As a digital first company the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time inperson collaborating via regular onsites. The inperson sessions cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 24 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic locationwith our digital first philosophy Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by jobrelated skills experience and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
