Founded in 2011 our agency offers traumainformed low barrier programs that support young people in exiting the streets and achieving stability so that they can thrive not just survive. ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for managing and monitoring the following functional areas: employee relations recruitment onboarding policy development and implementation employment law compliance payroll functions benefits administration leaves and terminations performance reviews and employee relations. This position requires an extremely perceptive and proactive person who is capable of relating to and working with individuals at all levels within the organization. The Director of Human Resources will be sensitive to employee morale and SPYs organizational needs and will work closely with the Chief StrategyOfficer to support SPYs mission.


WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Oversee the human resources department and personnel and administer various human resource plans procedures and initiatives for all staff
  • Implement traumainformed organizational practices within human resources
  • Communicate with management and employees on various human resource policies procedures laws standards and other government relations.
  • Ensure all HR policies procedures and training programs are consistently administered are aligned with organizational goals and are in compliance with professional and federal regulatory standards; monitor adherence to rules regulations and procedures. Develop and implement new policies as needed and ensures that SPYs employee handbook is accurate and updated annually
  • Administer SPY compensation program and execute the performance evaluation process.
  • Maintain employee files and job descriptions; actively engage in audit processes
  • Receive manage and guide timely and comprehensive responses to complaints and employee relations issues.
  • Negotiate and manage employee benefits plans including claims resolution; support staff with benefits; communicate benefits information; and manage open enrollment.
  • Conduct recruitment for all positions and temporary employees; manage internships; conduct new employee orientations; and monitor employee development and lifecycle.
  • Be a thought partner and work closely with other supervisors toward HR priorities.
  • Manage implementation of payroll biweekly ensuring accuracy proper funding allocations and timely disbursements of final paychecks
  • Monitors and ensures the organizations compliance with federal state and local
  • employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Facilitates professional development training and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Represent the organization for any unemployment claims.
  • Work closely with the Chief Strategy Officer on other organizational matters as needed including strategic planning issues budget matters employee engagement and retention strategies staff development and other organizational development issues.
  • Completes regular reporting including monthly outcomes reporting
  • Serves as the ADA compliance officer
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the organization.


Requirements

WHAT YOULL NEED:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Management or any related field is required.
  • Masters degree in any related field is preferred.
  • SHRM Certification preferred.
  • California Law HR Specialty Credential preferred.
  • 45 years of experience coaching training and developing talent is preferred.
  • Expertise in human resources best practices and California laws is required.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the California nonprofit sector is preferred.
  • An ideal candidate would demonstrate a history of developing policies and developing programs designed for employees with lived experience of homelessness
  • Commitment to and passion for the mission vision values and culture of SPY.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of government contract and grants management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage major projects or initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
  • High comfort level working in a diverse environment.
  • Impeccable editing and proofreading skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid California drivers license and proof of insurance.
  • Successfully pass a Live Scan background check after receiving an offer of employment and provide proof of TB test or PPD Risk assessment within the last 60 days.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Changes in the environment such as the office or outdoors.
  • Physical effort/lifting such as sedentary up to 1520 pounds at times.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Mandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21 2017 as a condition of employment.


COVID19 Vaccination Requirements: Effective August 9 2021 the State Health Officer has mandated that all workers paid or unpaid in homeless services organizations must provide proof of vaccination. If eligible for a booster shot proof of booster is also required. If not fully vaccinated weekly COVID19 testing is necessary depending on the program. Driver Positions:

Applicants are required to provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles along with a copy of their valid drivers license and proof of insurance. Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record. Examples of an unsatisfactory driving record include:

  • Suspended or revoked license
  • Three or more moving violations in the past 36 months
  • Any violations including alcohol controlled substances within the past 24 months
  • Reckless driving including hit and runs within the past 24 months
  • At fault accidents resulting in fatality or serious injury within the past 5 years
