Hours:8 Hours per Day 260 Days per Year

JOB DESCRIPTION

The person in this position will perform general grounds work including but not limited to mowing weeding trimming cleanup street/parking lot sweeping tree and shrub trimming. They will operate repair and maintain mowing machines trimmers edgers tractors and other grounds equipment. They will operate maintain and repair sprinkler systems underground piping systems pumps and controllers; and perform other job related duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  2. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position as indicated by taking and passing a physicalcapacity exam after job offer and before employment begins.
  3. Must pass a basic skills test.
  4. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of employment and yearly thereafter.
  5. Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Minimum of three 3 years experience working in a grounds maintenance operation with multiple locations.
  2. Washington State Pesticide Applicators License.
  3. Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under the headings Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Requirements Physical Demands and Work Environment.
  4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  5. Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
  7. Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License with a clear driving record. (Applicant will be required to provide a current abstract of their driving record.
  8. Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
  9. Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS)
  10. Evidence of ability to be a selfstarter with a demonstrated ability to problemsolve.
  11. The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety; read and interpret plans construction drawings and blueprints.
  12. Ability to work flexible hours at times respond to emergencies willingness to work overtime.
  13. Physically able to do the required work including: heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs. squatting bending stooping carrying climbing of ladders and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.
  14. Show a history of dependability and punctuality along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
  15. Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the districts needs and deadlines.
  16. Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed and make cost estimates for projects.
  17. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with fellow employees shop lead persons district staff and administrators.
  18. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Sports Field Specialist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform general grounds work including but not limited to turf repair weeding tree and shrub trimming cleanup and street/parking lot sweeping.
  2. Operate and maintain mowing equipment tractors trimmers edgers and other grounds equipment.
  3. Operate maintain and repair sprinkler systems underground piping systems pumps and controllers. NOTE: Hand digging is required in many locations when repairing piping systems.
  4. Apply fertilizers and control.
  5. Install maintain and repair fences playground equipment and exterior athletic equipment.
  6. Install maintain and repair paved surfaces and tracks.
  7. Develop and maintain playgrounds and athletic fields.
  8. Handle move and dispose of materials trash equipment furniture sand gravel rocks and etc.
  9. Perform snow removal.
  10. Perform any other task as may be required by the supervisor lead worker and/or administration relating to this job classification.
  11. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
  12. Work closely with and communicate with the shop lead person and the Buildings and Grounds Manager.
  13. Report problem areas and safety hazards in or on school facilities.
  14. Provide assistance to and/or coordinate with other employees and trades in order to accomplish the highest possible quality and quantity of work in the least amount of time without causing undue hardship for other craftsmen or shops.
  15. Submit finished work orders promptly; complete with all hours worked and related costs.
  16. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
  17. Assist in the creation and implementation of a calendarbased preventative maintenance system.
  18. Enter time and materials into electronic work order system.
  19. Generate work orders for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
  20. Performs other related jobs and duties as assigned.
