Position Summary

Emerge is a grantfunded program under the Longmore Institute on Disability within the college of Liberal and Creative Arts and consists of a summer intensive workshop that involves a physical inperson week in San Francisco followed by a monthlong virtual daily convening for ten disabled scholars artists and activists to promote scholaractivism. The Emerge Project Lead will plan coordinate and oversee the final year of the Emerge initiative facilitate the Emerge cohort organize and promote the Emerge symposium organize payments and manage the budget and grant reporting for the Mellon Foundation. The Project Lead is the head of the Emerge team and supervises the Emerge access and events coordinator in their parttime position as well as the conflict resolution and community liaison leader (hired as an independent contractor).

Position Information

Emerge Program Oversight Program Development and Facilitation

  • Design and implement a vision for Emerge workshop year 3 building on years 1 and 2 and the culminating symposium. This work includes developing four hours of daily curriculum to guide group discussions and activities; creation/implementation of grant impact metrics; facilitating Emerge fellows through a community agreements process and determining the course of action if community agreements are not followed; and organizing the fellows into panels on cohesive topics for symposium and generate/disseminate publicity; develop and conduct exit interview process.
  • Serve as main contact/liaison to outside agencies and entities related to the program.
  • Serve as a key technical advisor to executives and management exercising considerable influence over strategic objectives and methods.
  • Lead business innovation and process improvement efforts often developing new strategic approaches and solutions. Pivot to meet the cohorts needs while maintaining grant goals and objectives.
  • Public speaking to represent the Emerge initiative.
  • Ensure timely information is given to all participants.
  • Plan and carry out Emerge public highly accessible symposium.
  • The grant document provides program goals use independent determination to ensure that daily content is progressing towards those goals and check in with Emerge Fellows regularly to assess that the project is on track to meet the objectives of the Emerge initiative with full accountability for the project if goals are not met.
  • Bring disability justice values in to guide creative solutions to complex problems and situations that may arise.
  • Organize and develop content for daily facilitation of Emerge curriculum.
  • Influence over key objectives and longerterm goals of the Emerge program with high visibility or broad impact within and outside the Longmore Institute on Disability.
  • Oversee data collection and writing of annual funder reports and publishing white paper of Emerge learning and impact.

Logistics Travel Payments and Reporting

  • Lead all aspects related to the administration of the Emerge program.
  • Coordinate travel and lodging DPRC access requests budget Docusign paperwork payments Pcard reports cohort community agreements and Emerge mentor agreements all in alignment with SFSU and ORSP policies.
  • Develop and implement program evaluation. Analyze all data collected for final fund reporting. Publish the impact.

Emerge Team Oversight

  • Supervise mentors access/events coordinator Emerge conflict resolution leader and Emerge guests.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles practices and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelors degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study analysis and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies procedures practices or programs.

  • Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.

  • Extensive and indepth knowledge of and ability to apply expertise in the advanced theories principles methods and practices associated with the functional specialty program and/or organizational unit including applicable internal policies and procedures and pertinent laws and regulations. Laws and regulations are highly complex and require substantial judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying them to the specialty or program area. Incumbents at this level often may have certification in a specialty area.
  • Substantial and broad knowledge of public and private entities including their organizational and operating structures internal systems and functional areas as well as the impact of critical external entities on an organization. Ability to integrate and apply this knowledge to anticipate problems and assess the impact of proposed solutions on various organizational areas.
  • Extensive and indepth knowledge in project management including research and analytical methodologies. Ability to interpret and integrate complex data and information to formulate appropriate courses of action which have broad and farreaching impact.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly organized and detailoriented person.

  • Highly experienced facilitator capable to leading meetings handling conflict and managing complex and personal discussions.

    Experience working with disabled people and/or disability community.
  • Must identify and have track record as a disability studies scholaractivist whether in higher education the arts filmmaking or grassroots activism.
  • Experience using Zoom meetings.
  • Strong professional communication skills to coordinate details with community organizations and Emerge Fellows.
  • Expertise in accommodations and creative thinking that goes beyond legal compliance.
  • Personal background or experience with disability studies disability justice activism and/or disabilityfocused art practice.
  • Knowledge and/or relationships with Bay Area disability organizations.
  • Experience navigating complex bureaucratic systems and paperwork.
  • Experience with MailChimp Canva and developing accessible forms of media.
  • Experience facilitating hybrid meetings.

Environmental/Physical/Special

Some remote work is available but this position will require inperson participation and site visits throughout the Bay
Area particularly in the month of June to help set up digital participation for other disabled people unable to be on
site.
