Summary of Job Duties:

As an AWeek Leader you will undertake additional responsibilities related to assisting new college students in navigating their transition to university life. In addition to facilitating the objectives and smallgroup activities of the AWeek fall transition initiative AWeek Leaders are tasked with supporting new Razorbacks in their transition to college through programming and outreach efforts.

Specifically AWeek Leaders are required to attend daily topicspecific programs and participate in small group discussions throughout AWeek. Working individually and in small groups you will strive to ensure that the transition to college is as smooth as possible for incoming students. This involves providing various forms of support including social bonding activities leadership development opportunities and professional skillbuilding exercises.

Availability to commit to the required training sessions and the entire duration of AWeek.

Regular reliable and nondisruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be a current undergraduate student at the University of Arkansas

  • Applicants must have completed at least one 1 full semester at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville (minimum 12 credit hours)

  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.25 at the time of application and at the end of the Spring semester. No student may apply for or hold a Transition Programs and Initiatives (TPI) leadership position while on academic or disciplinary probation

  • Demonstrated leadership experience or potential

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in student leadership roles orientation programs or similar campus involvement

  • Experience with event planning facilitation or program development

  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the needs of incoming students and program changes

  • Experience with public speaking or facilitating group discussions

  • Enthusiasm for welcoming and supporting new students during their transition to college life

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Leadership Skills: Serve as a role model for incoming students. Leadership skills are crucial for guiding freshmen through their transition to university life

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for mentoring freshmen. You need to be able to convey information clearly listen actively to students concerns and provide constructive feedback

  • Empathy and Patience: Empathy and patience are essential qualities for understanding struggles and providing support

  • Academic Excellence: As an AWeek Leader you should have a strong academic background in your field of study. This knowledge will help you assist freshmen with academic inquiries and provide guidance on resources that lead to academic success

  • Time Management: Balancing your schedule with mentoring responsibilities requires effective time management skills. Youll need to prioritize tasks and allocate time efficiently to fulfill your duties as a leader

  • Adaptability: Each new freshman you lead will have unique needs and challenges. Being adaptable allows you to tailor your approach to meeting individual student requirements effectively

  • Conflict Resolution Skills: At times you may encounter conflicts or disagreements among others. Having the ability to mediate conflicts and find mutually acceptable solutions is essential for maintaining a positive and supportive mentorship environment

  • Knowledge of University Resources: Familiarize yourself with the various support services and resources available on campus such as academic advising counseling services and extracurricular opportunities. This knowledge will enable you to direct freshmen to the appropriate resources when needed

  • Ethical Conduct: Maintain professionalism and integrity in your interactions with students and other members of the university community. Upholding ethical standards is essential for building trust and credibility as a leader

  • Commitment to Personal Growth: Demonstrate a commitment to your own personal and professional development. Reflect on your experiences as a leader seek feedback from others and continually strive to improve your skills and effectiveness in supporting other students

  • Knowledge of university resources services and campus culture

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of students

  • Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations effectively
