The City and Borough of Juneau in Alaska is seeking an Architect III (also known as the City Architect) to lead and mentor a dynamic team of architects and professionals within the CBJ Engineering & Public Works Department. In this key leadership position the City Architect will play a crucial role in overseeing and guiding the development of significant architectural projects while fostering collaboration across departments and ensuring the delivery of highquality public infrastructure.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a City Architect with a strong architectural background extensive experience in managing complex projects and a proven ability to lead teams within a public sector environment. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Public Works and Engineering you will play a key role in overseeing the architectural division within the Engineering & Public Works Department (EPW). You will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative and highperformance culture ensuring the successful delivery of diverse architectural projects that meet both community and regulatory needs.
This role requires high independence excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong leadership capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing teams overseeing budgets and coordinating multifaceted projects both shortterm and multiyear.
You will lead by example guiding your team through timesensitive challenges while ensuring projects meet established goals and timelines.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
In this position you will generally work Monday through Friday 8:00am 5:00pm with an hour lunch. Hours may vary as needed to carry out essential services associated with Engineering and Public Works including participation in Assembly meetings or other official activities outside of typical working hours. Your office will be located in downtown Juneau in the Marine View Building on the 3rd floor. It is likely however that the EPW offices will move in approximately a year.
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
In this position you will work directly under the Deputy Director to oversee architectural and vertical construction functions within EPW ensuring the successful planning design and of municipal projects. You will guide a team of architects and design professionals through all stages of project development maintaining high standards of quality safety and regulatory compliance. Your role will be key in ensuring the architectural divisions success in delivering projects that contribute to the development of Juneaus infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Three 3 years professional experience as a registered Engineer Architect or Land Surveyor that includes managing projects in a designated field of practice or specialty as defined by the position description.
Licensure: Alaska state law requires incumbents to be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) Architect or Professional Land Surveyor (PS) as defined by the position description.
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.A valid Drivers License is required at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Pay is Dependent on Experience (DOE). The pay will be commensurate with the experience skills and qualifications that the candidate brings to the position.
