The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine Medical University of South Carolina (JBE CDM) is seeking applications for a fulltime faculty position in the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences with the responsibility to:

Serve 40 FTE as faculty clinician both at the West Ashley Medical Pavilion and Nexton Dental Clinics. (JBE CDM offsite clinics)

Serve 40 FTE as faculty clinician in the student clinics located in the building of the JBE CDM in downtown Charleston.

Provide clinical care at 20 FTE in the Dental Faculty Practice

Educational Responsibilities.

Within the JBE CDM downtown Charleston facility this faculty position will focus on delivering preclinical and clinical education within the Restorative Division in the Department of Reconstructive & Rehabilitation Sciences. The primary goal is to provide comprehensive education covering various aspects of operative dentistry fixed prosthodontics CAD/CAM dentistry and overall comprehensive care. The responsibilities may include teaching theoretical concepts practical skills and clinical techniques to students as well as contributing to curriculum development research and scholarly activities within the department.

Within the JBE CDM offsite clinics the faculty will divide his/her time between the Nexton facility and the West Ashley facility. In addition to providing patient care educational responsibilities will include supervising students and/or residents providing clinical care.

Clinical Responsibilities. The faculty position also will deliver comprehensive general dentistry in the JBE CDM offsite clinics and will serve as the primary backup for other faculty who provide clinical care at these locations. In addition the candidate is expected to practice in the Dental Faculty Practice.

Requirements. The ideal candidate will be a clinician with at least 7 years clinical experience with excellent proficiency in Digital Dentistry technology. Prosthodontic training from a CODA accredited program is preferred and can substitute for the clinical experience threshold. Previous experience working in an academic environment and advanced training in general dentistry (AEGD or GPR) will be considered an advantage.

The candidate must be willing and able to provide direct clinical care oversee and instruct students be a strong communicator and have a positive personality conducive to developing a compassionate respectful and productive work environment.

Successful applicants must have a DMD or DDS degree and should qualify for a South Carolina full or teaching dental license. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience. The position may require flexible hours.

Ability to maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts.
Ability to work overtime as to learn and use new processes tools and equipment as required.
