The Department of Violence Prevention (DVP) was established in 2017 to tackle the challenges with violence in Oakland. The DVP applies a public health approach to violence prevention focused on communityled intervention strategies to realize sustained safety and stability of the families and communities most impacted by violence. To achieve its mandated goals of reducing violence in Oakland the DVP provides direct services and funds coordinates and supports a network of violence prevention and intervention programs that prioritizes the people and places most impacted by violence. The ultimate goal is a safer and thriving Oakland for all.
The City of Oakland is recruiting to fill several Case Manager I (Selectively Certified in Violence Prevention) vacancies within the Department of Violence Prevention; including fulltime Civil Service vacancies Grant Funded Limited Duration vacancies and LimitedDuration vacancies. Grant Funded Limited Duration vacancy shall not exceed three 3 years or when the funds are exhausted whichever comes first. Limited Duration vacancies are for a limited duration and shall not exceed one 1 year.
The ideal candidate is culturally competent in working with individuals at high risk for engaging in violence and is also wellversed in employment and support services available to the individuals within target populations. The ideal candidate must also be able to effectively communicate with highrisk highneed individuals from communities disproportionately impacted by trauma and violence.
The Case Manager I (Selectively Certified in Violence Prevention) position provides case management services to highrisk individuals including those who are victims of genderbased violence are groupinvolved and are on probation or parole. The incumbent serves clients referred through violence incident crisis response community healing Highland Hospital Probation Ceasefire and other appropriate sources. Case management services include assessment and/or certification care plan development and implementation brokering of client services supporting of clients home visits and documentation and performing related duties as assigned.
This is an entrylevel classification in the Case Manager series.
Must be able to work flexible hours which may include nights and some weekends.
Flexible Staffing: This classification has been designated for flexible staffing. Incumbents in the Case Manager I (Selectively Certified in Violence Prevention) classification may be eligible to advance without formal examination to the Case Manager II (Selectively Certified in Violence Prevention) classification in accordance with established City flexible staffing policies and procedures.
