This notice is to seek applicants to participate in the Civil Service Examination for Corrections Deputy. All classified employees/positions within the Sheriffs Office require a Civil Service Examination.
When the position is open it will be a fulltime position sworn (Commissioned) position within the Island County Sheriffs Office. Deputy performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in the Corrections and Detention facility located at the Island County seat in the Town of Coupeville. Corrections Deputies work in a 24hour 7dayaweek maximumsecurity jail to maintain facility security by: receiving booking maintaining custody of escorting transporting caring for and overseeing offenders. They are also responsible to model prosocial behaviors and promote positive correctional practices.

This is a Continuous Examination process. Preemployment written and physical ability testing is offered continuously throughPublic Safety Testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must meet minimum qualifications:
1 Attainment of the minimum age of 21 years. No maximum age requirement.
2 Possession of or ability to obtain prior to employment a valid Washington State Driver License.
3 Be a high school graduate or possess GED certification.
4 Be a United States Citizen or a lawful permanent residentwho can read and write the English language.*
5 Good physical and mental health.
6 Meet minimum weight and height standards.
7 Vision uncorrected 20/100 corrected to 20/20 on both eyes.
* RCW 41.14.100 An applicant for a position of any kind under civil service under the provisions of this chapter must be a citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident who can read and write the English language. An application for a position with a law enforcement agency maybe rejected if the law enforcement agency deems that it does not have the resources to conduct the background investigation required pursuant to chapter 43.101 RCW. Resources means materials funding and staff time. Nothing in this section impairs an applicants rights under state antidiscrimination laws.
