Job Description

Position Function:

The Financial Records Manager provides operational oversite and managerial supervision within the Reporting Planning and Analysis department within the Controller and Treasurers office. This role is responsible for managing the daily operations of the office including supervising personnel work allocation training and development of staff and training to campus. This position is also responsible for ensuring accuracy efficiency and compliance in financial reporting and strategic planning processes.

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC these positions are Unclassified and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The main duty of Reporting Planning & Analysis is to maintain the general ledger for the University and produce the annual financial statements. In addition we establish and maintain the chart of accounts reconcile all payroll liability accounts and process journal vouchers and charge files for departments on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for oversight of the employees and duties of the Reporting Planning and Analysis Office.
2. Responsible for reviewing work performed by Reporting Planning and Analysis staff.
3. Responsible for assisting business managers and other departmental staff with complicated financial transactions.
4. Responsible for compiling and analyzing various external reports to facilitate comparison among peer institutions.
5. Responsible for the compilation of required annual reports including financial statements and yearend summaries.
6. Responsible for compiling supporting documentation for the annual financial statements.
7. Responsible for preparing and distributing annual reports to departments for their review and feedback.
8. Responsible for compiling and submitting annual and semiannual reports to the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board Office.
9. Responsible for ensuring monthly Journal Vouchers are prepared and approved leading up to month end close.
10. Responsible for preparation of month end reports.
11. Provide documentation for annual external financial statement audit.
12. Assist in research and implementation of all Governmental Accounting Standards Board Pronouncements.
13. Responsible for adjusting financial forecasting model in the Universitys longterm financial planning tool.
14. Responsible for compilation of ad hoc reports as requested.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelors degree in accounting
2. Five years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Masters degree in accounting
2. CPA
3. Experience working in Banner software application
4. Experience in university accounting

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Welldeveloped interpersonal and customer service skills.
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
3. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
4. Working knowledge of Crystal Reports.
5. Independent selfstarter with strong work ethic.
6. Experience in work settings requiring teamwork and highvolume assignments.
7. Willingness to embrace new technology and adapt to new rules and regulations in ever evolving area of governmental accounting.
8. Ability to manage priorities and meet multiple daily deadlines.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Routine deadlines; usually enough lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor; frequent evening and weekend work is required.
2. Job frequently requires sitting reaching talking hearing and handling objects with hands.
3. Job occasionally requires standing walking stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling and lifting to 25 pounds.
4. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
