The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant or Associate Professor of Community Engagement and Design UNLV School of Architecture R

ROLE of the POSITION

The School of Architecture at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) invites well qualified applicants for a ninemonth tenuretrack Assistant or Associate Professor of Community Engagement and Design. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in building and sustaining partnerships between academia and external organizations such as private industries in architecture landscape architecture interior architecture and design and their allied professions. This position aims to foster collaboration that enhances educational experiences supports faculty research and contributes to the economic and social development of the community through applied design.

The Successful Candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach design studios and lecture/seminar courses in architecture with strong connections to landscape architecture or interior architecture and design at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  • Engage in scholarship that contributes to the understanding and improvement of community engagement and design in a manner conducive to an academic environment i.e. the dissemination of completed works in high impact academic venues.
  • Collaborate with students faculty and administrative leaders to enhance the School of Architectures strategic goals related to community engagement and partnerships.
  • Contribute to the development of funding strategies for collaborative community projects including seeking externally funded grants and other types of financial support.
  • Develop and lead initiatives that promote meaningful collaborations between the UNLV School of Architecture and industry partners across the design disciplines of architecture landscape architecture and interior architecture and design.
  • Serve as a liaison between the School and private practice public agencies and nonprofit and community organizations to establish mutually beneficial projects and research opportunities.
  • Introduce collaborative industry partnerships into the Schools curricula creating opportunities for experiential learning and professional development for students.
  • Contribute to University College and School governance including but not limited to committee assignments curricular assessment and review maintaining accreditation standards and student mentorship.
  • Participate in the recruitment and mentorship of students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires apossession of an earned terminal degree in architecture from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

In addition the successful candidate must also:

  • Demonstrate wellqualified experience in community engagement or partnership development within the design professions.
  • Possess a strong record of or potential for scholarly research and/or creative work in the field of architecture landscape architecture or interior architecture and design.
  • Demonstrate evidence of teaching ability in the area of community engagement and design at the university level.
  • Possess experience in developing and sustaining partnerships with private industry or publicsector organizations.
  • Demonstrate evidence of integrating community engagement into a higher educationlevelacademic curriculum and student learning experiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of an additional earned professional degree in either landscape architecture interior architecture and design or an allied discipline such as urban and/or regional planning.
  • A record of externally funded projects research creative activity or successful grant writing.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive educational environment.
  • A demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
