Position: Math Tutor
Reports to: Principal
Location: Eskasoni Elementary & Middle School
Job type: Full time
Job Summary
The math tutor is responsible to assist students in grades 6 to 8 individually or in small groups to help them improve their math skills. The incumbent will assist with homework assignments and preparing students for tests in all grade levels create an engaging learning environment and enhance student confidence and interest in learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide tutoring sessions individually or in small groups both in person and remotely;
- Deliver lessons and instructions developed by teachers;
- Maintain a safe welcoming and positive learning environment;
- Meet with students regularly to discuss and go over math coursework;
- Help students understand math concepts processes and computations;
- Assist with homework assignments projects and test preparation;
- Offer support and encouragement to keep students motivated;
- Maintain records and submit reports weekly on student progress;
- Provide tutoring support to students online through google meet platform;
- Collaborate with teachers and school administration to address issues;
- Address student questions focusing on areas of greatest difficulty.
Requirements
- Post Secondary education an asset or currently working towards a degree
- Tutoring experience
- Strong knowledge of mathematics and familiarity with NS math outcomes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in English and Mikmaq
Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
