The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Division of Facilities Services
is looking for an Engineering Assistant 3 in Anchorage Fairbanks or Juneau to help us Keep Alaska Moving!


Pay is based on the locationof the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

Anchorage: $41.93 hourly / OT Eligible
Fairbanks: $43.19 hourly/ OT Eligible
Juneau: $44.03 hourly/ OT Eligible

What you will be doing:
This position functions as a Resident Project Engineer in charge of construction projects of average size and complexity typically ranging from $500000 to $. As a Resident Engineer the employees primary responsibility is to provide onsite agency representation and maintain continuous inspection of contractor activities day and/or night. This position also may serve to conduct construction phase project closeouts and/or concurrent review of the construction phase documentation of others.

As Resident Engineer this position is an onsite representative of the Contracting Officer. This responsibility requires the performance of necessary engineering functions as well as constant inspection of the contractors operation to control the work in accordance with standards and policy. The Resident Engineer is the primary liaison for the resolution of constructionrelated problems and is responsible for obtaining advice from proper professionals (e.g. design architects and engineers of record for design questions. In consultation with the supervisor the Resident Engineer is expected to make equitable and timely decisions for the resolution of problems during construction.

This position serves in the Statewide Public Facilities Section of the Division of Facilities Services (DFS). This position will work with design and construction project managers as well as maintenance and operations managers. Position duties include but are not limited to oversight for PreConstruction Conferences Construction Submittal reviews DBE Program Subcontracts Project Initiation and Closeout Labor & Payroll requirements Review Estimates Status Reports Research Etc. Support DFS with Deferred Maintenance Project Management CMMS business/system administration and facility optimization management.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of:
  • Facilities: Knowledge of the physical engineering and experimental equipment and operational characteristics of facilities and safety and equipment development designed to support activities.
  • Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods required to plan design construct operate and maintain facilities such as buildings transportation systems water and sanitary systems and other public works systems.

Bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
Two years of engineering architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Or:
A bachelors degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An EngineerInTraining (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
Two years of engineering architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering architecture or land surveying 3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.

Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience 2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).
