DEQ has an open opportunity for an Environmental Program Supervisor I.

*This is a REPOST of position.

This position is ExemptfromtheHumanResourcesAct(EHRA with the exception of Articles 6 and 7. This is a fulltime position 40 hours per week) with applicableStateBenefits.*

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be selfmotivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.


This position will supervise and lead a team of engineering and environmental subject matter experts who perform detailed review of environmental and financial documents related to infrastructure project scopes and planning. The project review team reviews infrastructure projects throughout their life cycle to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of funding offered by DEQ.

The Office of Continuous Improvement (OCI) enhances the performance of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality by fostering compliance and efficiency across diverse projects. As a fluid team of multidisciplinary collaborative problemsolvers OCI leverages business processes data analysis compliance and engineering expertise to drive improvement.

Embedded within DEQ Divisions OCI is a hub of expertise developing and strengthening processes and workflows that support DEQs mandate to deliver federal funding effectively and equitably for infrastructure energy and resilience projects. OCI is charged with helping DEQ teams solve challenges break down crossorganizational silos provide data strategy technical support and policy expertise. OCIs goal is to deliver impactful results while upholding regulatory standards ultimately contributing to more efficient and effective environmental stewardship for North Carolina.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in one of the agricultural biological engineering environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in environmental work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
